Lamine Yamal breaks a Champions League record set by Kylian Mbappe

Lamine Yamal has broken an all-time Champions League record previously held by Kylian Mbappe – and he may well shatter it when all is said and done.

The Barcelona teenager assisted Raphinha for the opening goal against Feyenoord in the league phase opener at Camp Nou on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Yamal volleyed a pass to Raphinha, who did the rest with a brilliant individual effort that saw him send two defenders sliding past as he cut back in the box.

The assist was the 21st career Champions League goal involvement for Yamal (11 goals, 10 assists), who broke Mbappe’s previous record of 20 for the most by a teenager in the competition’s history.

Yamal would go on to add a goal and a second assist in a 5-1 win, ending the day on 23 career goal involvements in the Champions League.

Yamal just turned 19 in July, meaning he will have all of this year’s Champions League to continue adding to his record.

After a World Cup-winning summer with Spain, Yamal will look to continue adding to his trophy haul with Barcelona in the 2026-27 campaign.

The teenager has won three La Liga titles and one Copa del Rey, but has yet to lift the Champions League in his already trophy-laden career.

He was also named to the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or this week for the third consecutive time. Yamal is considered among the favorites for an award he narrowly missed last year as runner-up.
