Lakers Rule Out Collin Sexton and Two Others for Season Opener Against Warriors

The Los Angeles Lakers will open their regular season Wednesday night against the Golden State Warriors without guard Collin Sexton, who has been ruled out due to a right soleus strain. Sexton missed all five of the team’s preseason games with the injury and, despite participating in his first full practice on Monday, ultimately failed to clear final medical hurdles before game time.

Following Monday’s session, Sexton indicated he felt good on the court but acknowledged that his leg had been experiencing lingering tightness. The eight-year veteran, who signed a two-year, $19 million contract with the franchise during the offseason, was initially listed as day-to-day before the medical staff made the final decision to keep him sidelined for the opener. Over his eight-year career spanning stints with the Cavaliers, Jazz, Hornets, and Bulls, Sexton has maintained averages of 18.3 points on 47.2% shooting, including 38.9% from three-point range, along with 2.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.

Sexton is not the only rotation piece unavailable for the home opener. The Lakers announced on Tuesday that rookie guard Cameron Carr and second-year forward Adou Thiero will also miss the contest. Carr is dealing with a right oblique strain, while Thiero is sidelined due to a left knee effusion.

Los Angeles hosts Golden State at Crypto.com Arena, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. PST.
