On Thursday at 12:04 p.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated lake wind advisory valid for Friday, Sept. 11 between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area.
“Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts to 30 to 35 mph. Wave heights of 1 to 3 feet for Lake Tahoe,” can be expected according to the NWS Reno NV. “Winds will increase Saturday through the morning and afternoon hours, with the strongest winds expected Saturday evening.”
“Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Strong winds and rough waves on area lakes will create hazardous conditions for small craft. Blowing dust may reduce visibilities,” according to the NWS. “Now is the time to secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture and trash cans before winds increase which could blow these items away. The best thing to do is prepare ahead of time by making sure you have extra food and water on hand, flashlights with spare batteries and/or candles in the event of a power outage. Check lake conditions before heading out and be prepared for a sudden increase in winds and wave heights. Consider postponing boating activities on the lake until a day with less wind.”
