The catch is simple: the coupons won’t wait. Kroger and its subsidiaries are distributing the 100,000 pints through a coupon system, with the digital offers released online beginning June 19 at 12 p.m. ET.

To get a coupon, shoppers need to visit FreeKrogerIceCream.com, select a participating store from the drop-down list, and then receive access to their digital coupon. The coupon can be redeemed for one free pint of ice cream.

The offer is broad on flavor. The digital coupon can be redeemed for any pint of Kroger® Brand Ice Cream. Kroger lists familiar options such as vanilla, chocolate, mint chocolate chip, and rocky road.

Kroger says the promotion also lines up with the company’s summer lineup by introducing a limited-time All-American Ice Cream collection with three new flavors: Seventh Inning Swirl, Sweet As Cherry Pie, and Banana Split Social.

Redeeming the coupon doesn’t mean bouncing between retailers. Kroger’s giveaway website lists Kroger-owned chains where customers are eligible to redeem. including Baker’s. City Market. Dillons. Even though the coupons are released on Friday, June 19, shoppers won’t have to race only through the weekend to use them. Kroger says the coupons can be redeemed through Friday, July 3—so the urgency is getting the coupon at the start, not finishing the checkout by Sunday.

That structure—short window to claim, longer deadline to redeem—puts the emphasis on being online right when the 12 p.m. ET release begins, then following through on redemption at a participating store before July 3.

  1. I don’t get it. It says first come first serve but you can redeem until July 3, so why is everyone acting like it’s gone already? Probably just another website crash thing.

  2. Wait, I thought it was for free pints at the store, like you just walk in and they give it to you. But you have to do the digital coupon thing and pick a store?? Sounds kinda scammy not gonna lie. Also “Summer Solstice” is just marketing right?

  3. 100,000 pints sounds like a lot until you realize they probably geofence it to certain areas or stores. FreeKrogerIceCream.com — I bet it’s packed at 12 pm ET and then never loads. Also why are they introducing flavors like Banana Split Social… does that mean it’s only sold at certain times? I saw somewhere you had to be a Kroger rewards member too, but not sure.
