Kings rumors: Sacramento considering Russell Westbrook, Victor Oladipo signing

The Sacramento Kings still have some spots to fill on the roster this NBA offseason. Some options they can pursue involve a reunion with veteran guard Russell Westbrook.

Westbrook spent the entire 2025-26 campaign with the Kings, playing in 64 games as a full-time starter. He is in free agency after declining his player option for the 2026-27 campaign, exploring his options.

Sacramento is going through another rebuilding phase as they stack up on promising young talents. They seem to be looking at the option of signing veterans to assist in mentoring those players, per NBA insider Jake Fischer.

“Among tonight’s items, sources say the Kings are considering adding one of various veteran guards to help mentor No. 7 pick Darius Acuff, to where Sacramento is now considering a return for Russell Westbrook, in addition to signing Victor Oladipo,” Fischer wrote.

What lies ahead for Kings amid Russell Westbrook rumors

The Kings find themselves with solutions to address their needs in key areas on the roster. Russell Westbrook and Victor Oladipo are certainly options to consider, given their experience of serving in the backcourt for over a decade.

Westbrook showed he can still play at a solid level after going through Year 18 with the Kings. He averaged 15.2 points, 6.7 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game throughout his 64 appearances.

Oladipo hasn’t played in the NBA since his time with the Miami Heat during the 2022-23 campaign. Despite this, he seeks a return to the league as he still has gas in the tank with his two-way talents.

Sacramento struggled last season with one of the worst records in the league. Their 22-60 display saw them be second-to-last in the Western Conference standings, only above the Utah Jazz while being under the Memphis Grizzlies and the Dallas Mavericks.

The Kings hope to return to the playoff heights they enjoyed in 2023, their first berth since 2006. However, it will require a lot of hard work and quality effort for them to earn their stripes as a team that can make noise in the league.
