Kinepolis Brussels to open first true IMAX 70mm

Kinepolis Brussels will soon open the first cinema in the Benelux region that is capable of screening films in IMAX 70mm, one of the rarest cinema formats in the world. The screen will be inaugurated with the Belgian premiere of Christopher Nolan’s new film, The Odyssey. “We are proud that Kinepolis Brussels is set to become one of the few European venues to offer a 70mm IMAX experience,” the theatre said. “This will reinforce our reputation as an unrivalled destination for film lovers.” Kinepolis Brussels

joins London and Prague in a very select group of cinemas worldwide capable of screening films in this format. IMAX is a specialised cinema experience offering the highest possible image sharpness and capable of achieving a resolution equivalent to 18K. The image is significantly larger than in traditional films and can be expanded to IMAX’s exclusive 1.43:1 aspect ratio, filling the giant screen from top to bottom. Alongside the new IMAX 70mm film projector, the existing digital IMAX 4K laser projection system will remain operational,

making Kinepolis Brussels one of the only venues in the world capable of presenting both systems. Christopher Nolan’s films are one of the major driving forces behind the redefinition of premium cinema experiences worldwide. The Odyssey was shot with IMAX film cameras and specifically designed to be experienced in IMAX 70mm film. The Odyssey is based on Homer’s legendary epic of the same name. The cast includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya and Charlize Theron. Kinepolis is launching the

film on 15 July.
