Fans insist Irish drama Kin rivals Peaky Blinders

After making its debut in 2021, there were fears this gripping Irish crime drama might never grace our screens again — but it’s back, and viewers couldn’t be more delighted. Anyone looking to sink their teeth into a brand new crime drama can be confident they’ll be hooked by this BBC series, which became one of the most-watched shows across Ireland. Kin is an Irish drama co-created by Peter McKenna and Ciaran Donnelly, filmed and set in Dublin. The show revolves around a fictional family
caught up in a vicious gangland feud. Originally aired on RTÉ One, the series was snapped up by both Netflix and BBC following a surge in popularity, paving the way for a second season to be made. At the heart of this hard-hitting story are Aidan Gillen and Ciarán Hinds, playing rival gang bosses Frank Kinsella and Eamon Cunningham respectively. They are joined on screen by the likes of Charlie Cox as Michael Kinsella, Clare Dunne as Amanda Kinsella and Emmett J. Scanlan as Jimmy
Kinsella. Having tuned in, fans have been quick to leave glowing reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. One reads: “Tense, riveting drama. Strong performances. Highly recommend.” While another simply said: “Best series I have seen, could not stop watching it, brilliantly written, acting superb, a must-watch for me.” Going into more detail, one viewer shared: “A brilliant gangster crime drama with a lot of suspense thrown in for good measure. Well directed, and with a great cast offering some really strong performances, this made for great marathon
viewing and delivered some genuinely impressive moments.” The show helped launch the careers of several cast members, with Sam Keeley going on to appear in the HBO drama Task and Scanlan landing a role in Netflix’s Fool Me Once. Yet after years of radio silence, fans were left questioning whether Kin had come to an end following the second series airing in 2023. Reports now suggest filming with the full cast is set to kick off this July as they return to Dublin. Despite the
rumours, no official confirmation regarding a third series has been forthcoming. A spokesperson for Irish broadcaster RTE previously told the Irish Mirror: “Kin has been an extremely popular series for RTE and if and when there’s something to announce, we will be delighted to do so.” Fans will no doubt be thrilled to see it back on screens, and in the meantime, both existing series of Kin appear well worth a watch, given that audiences have awarded it a perfect 100% overall rating on Rotten
Tomatoes. Drawing comparisons between the Irish drama and Peaky Blinders, one review says: “Absolutely brilliant, one of the best I’ve seen up there with Peekys, the acting throughout is superb and the storyline is gripping, season two just as good, hope there is a season three!”. All 16 gripping episodes of Kin are presently available to stream on both BBC iPlayer and Netflix, while eager viewers await the next chapter in the captivating drama.
