June 18 brought a sharp message from Pyongyang: Kim Yo-jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, denounced international calls for denuclearization and framed her country’s nuclear weapons as non-negotiable protection for sovereignty.
In a statement carried by the Korean Central News Agency. Kim Yo-jong said North Korea’s nuclear weapons are among the country’s “core interests. ” and described denuclearization as a “line of no retreat that can never be crossed.” She criticized the United States and its allies for making what she called “anachronistic” demands for North Korea’s denuclearization.
Her remarks were tied to a joint statement issued Wednesday by leaders of the Group of Seven nations at their summit in Evian-les-Bains. France. The G7 reaffirmed their commitment to the “complete denuclearization” of North Korea in line with UN Security Council resolutions. Kim Yo-jong rejected that demand outright, saying denuclearization is “an irreversibly finalized agenda” that “can never be realized.”.
“Nuclear weapons are powerful means of defending sovereignty and cornerstone for ensuring peace. defined by the law of the DPRK. ” she said. using “DPRK” to refer to North Korea’s official name. the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. She added that North Korea’s nuclear arsenal is “a means for self-defense.”.
Kim Yo-jong also warned of consequences for anyone who targets what she described as North Korea’s core interests. “Anyone who tries to hurt the core interests of a nuclear weapons state would make the worst option of inviting disaster,” she said.

So she’s saying “no retreat” but like… when does that ever change? Nobody believes them anyway.
I don’t get how G7 can “demand” anything when it’s literally North Korea. Feels like more talk than actual anything. Also the article keeps saying self-defense like that makes it ok?
Replying to Mark Johnson but I’m confused because doesn’t this mean they already denuclearized once before? Like I swear I heard something about them shutting down stuff already. Either way, “irreversibly finalized agenda” sounds like they’re gonna escalate.
G7 summit in France and Kim Yo-jong responds… like she’s running a PR campaign. If nuclear weapons are “non-negotiable protection,” then what are they expecting to happen next, another UN meeting? The wording “core interests” is so vague too, could be anything.
