Kieran breaks down at Liz Kavanagh’s Cortoon funeral

Liz Kavanagh’s husband, Kieran O’Malley, shared a heartbreaking tribute to his late wife as she was laid to rest today after she sadly lost her battle with cancer earlier this month . The couple only tied the knot just seven weeks ago in a beautiful and intimate ceremony shortly after Liz was moved into hospice care due to her colon cancer diagnosis. Liz, who was from Galway, was told she first had cancer towards the end of 2024, and had bravely been fighting the disease
up until she passed, her funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon at St Patrick’s Church in Cortoon, Co. Galway. The altar was decorated with photos from Liz’s life, including a photo from the couple’s wedding day in March. Liz’s heartbroken husband Kieran began his eulogy by admitting: “I couldn’t sleep last night trying to think of what to say, and then I thought this morning that no matter what I say, Liz would be proud of me. So, if it’s rubbish, it’s her fault. “Liz
was truly a special daughter, sister, godmother, friend, person. Her legacy won’t be defined by the horrible illness that took her, but by the profound effect she had on the life of everyone she met, and thousands more. “Her courage and bravery in fighting her battle and the way she shared her journey was nothing short of inspirational. I’ve lost count of the number of messages from people whose lives have genuinely been changed because of Liz sharing her message,” he proudly told the congregation.
“From our first date on October 2nd, 2021, at the professedly named No Time To Die, things were just easy with Liz. It was normal, no drama, no nonsense. She fit seamlessly into my life, loved by my friends, adored by my family, tolerated by the cat,” he joked. He admitted Liz had been his biggest champion, explaining: “Liz was my number one supporter, as she was for many others. She never craved the limelight, but often shone brightest of all. “One thing that has
been a lovely comfort in recent days is one of the many lessons that Liz has taught me: ‘Take the photo. Don’t worry who is looking, just take that photo.’ “In the coming days, weeks and months, these will become even more special, so remember that, please,” he urged. “We were only together for four and a half years, married for seven weeks, but it’s not about the length of time. It’s about the love and happiness that we squeezed into that time. “Liz, as
you watch down on us with your beloved [aunt] Kathleen, thank you for making this world a better place.” Want to see more of the stories you love from RSVP ? To add RSVP as a preferred source of news on Google, simply click here
