Kevin Knight wins TNT belt—then takes AEW by storm

Signed in March 2025, Kevin Knight turned a showcase introduction into a rising-star takeover—winning the AEW TNT Championship at April’s Dynasty after a year of standout performances, trios success, and a high-stakes feud with MJF.
By the time Kevin Knight stepped into AEW, he didn’t look like someone arriving for a tryout. He looked like someone already built for the spotlight.
Knight’s AEW tenure began in March 2025. when the company put him in a 10-minute match against former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Jay White—and he lost. Immediately after. he was fighting alongside Will Ospreay in a tag team match on Dynamite. defeating Blake Christian and Lee Johnson. Then AEW did what it does best when it wants a debut to land hard: it kept the momentum visible. A graphic appeared showing Ospreay and Knight would square off at Dynasty in the opening round of the Owen Hart Foundation Memorial Tournament.
Knight took that challenge personally. He said his mindset was “I’ve got to come in and make a statement.” In his view, AEW is where “the best wrestle,” and the only way to survive the jump is to “show and prove yourself” against “literally the best in the world, in-ring wise.”
At Dynasty, Knight and Ospreay delivered an instant classic. Their match earned a match rating of 4.5 stars from Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer. Knight didn’t walk out the victor, but he left fans wanting more of him. That became the pattern. Over the next year. “The Jet” became a focal point on AEW television. and his run wasn’t limited to singles matches.
He became a two-time AEW World Trios Champion with JetSpeed teammate “Speedball” Mike Bailey. Knight praised Bailey, saying Bailey has been a “blessing” since Knight stepped into AEW. Knight described Bailey as someone with “such a great mind for pro wrestling” and how to put people “in the best situation possible.” He also said Bailey “knows everybody’s moves like the back of his hand. ” and that Bailey speaks four different languages—French. Spanish. and Japanese. specifically—so he can connect “with so many different types of wrestlers. ” whether they’re in Canada. Mexico. or Japan.
Their first reign came alongside two-time AEW World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page. They won the titles for a second time with Mistico at Revolution, defeating Kazuchika Okada, Kyle Fletcher, and Mark Davis of the Don Callis Family.
But Knight’s biggest win arrived at the exact moment AEW decided it was done framing him as a newcomer. The event was Dynasty again—this past April. It was also the Pay-Per-View where Knight introduced himself to the AEW audience one year earlier after the show-stealing performance against Ospreay.
This time, the stakes were clearer and the opportunity was bigger. A Casino Gauntlet match was held to crown a new AEW TNT Champion following Kyle Fletcher vacating the title due to injury. Knight came out victorious, earning the first singles title of his career and officially becoming the face of TNT.
Knight called it an honor to hold the TNT Championship. saying. “But the best thing I can say is a Russell Westbrook quote – who better but me?. Who better but the J-E-T?. Why not me?” He explained that going into Dynasty, there were “how many?. 10 other wrestlers” in the gauntlet. and his mindset was that he sees himself “at the top of this [industry].” He said he wanted the TNT spotlight—“So I’m gonna take this opportunity to be the new face of TNT”—and he believed there was “no better candidate than the Jet?”.
TNT has always carried a kind of design-your-own-identity energy. It traces back to its inception with Cody Rhodes becoming the inaugural winner. From Scorpio Sky’s Gold strap with purple accents that paid homage to his Los Angeles hometown. to Miro’s white strap with green and gold accents during his reign as The Redeemer. to the late Brodie Lee’s red and gold aesthetic retired by the company—this title has long been about standing out.
Knight has leaned into that idea. He said. “I brought back the diamonds [on the title]. ” adding that “we need the diamonds back on there to shine for their Knight in shining armor.” He framed his approach as unique reign after unique reign. saying “everybody’s had their own individual. unique reign. ” and he wants to prove he’s “the flyest TNT champ of all time.” His goal is to bring “my own flavor. ” and to do it “in the way that only I can while still putting on great matches.”.
Since winning the title. Knight’s defenses have put him in front of main-event-level names—he has defended against Claudio Castagnoli. Hook. and Brian Cage. In the middle of those big matches. the next major chapter opened with a different kind of opponent: Maxwell Jacob Friedman. who has become the face of All Elite Wrestling.
Knight challenged for MJF’s World Championship back in March, losing in a 17-minute barn-burner. But nearly two months later, MJF shifted his attention toward Knight’s TNT Championship during MJF’s world championship feud with Darby Allin.
Knight’s win over MJF didn’t come from trading blows straight up—it came from timing and control. After MJF eyed the TNT Championship, Knight outsmarted him by hitting MJF with a low blow before MJF could clock him with the Dynamite Diamond ring. Then Knight rolled MJF up for the pinfall win.
Knight explained what it meant to get in the ring with the man he described as “the devil.” He said. “Max is a staple in this company. ” and that getting in the ring with him. verbally sparring with him. and “physically whoop[ing] his ass by any means necessary. ” let Knight reach “the level of the devil.” Knight said he believes MJF “hasn’t ever been in the ring with somebody like myself. ” pointing to the differences in physical style and presentation. including “someone physically as handsome as me. who dresses as good as me.” He added that he thinks MJF is “a little bit intimidated. ” which is why MJF tries to “always micromanage things.”.
Then Knight offered his most personal edge. He said since he hasn’t been there since day one, he had a different perspective of MJF. Knight framed it as an intentional approach: “So I’m attacking him at different angles and doing things that he doesn’t see coming. And I think that gets under his skin.”.
There’s another reason Knight treats his ascent as more than sports entertainment momentum. He is one of the few black champions across the world of professional wrestling. and he said he doesn’t take that lightly. His goal. he said. is the same as former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland’s “main goal. ” along with “many other black talent.” Knight put it plainly: making it “normalized” across AEW and wrestling in general. He said the standard now is that “nothing is holding us back. ” and that “there aren’t many barriers” like there were before. He added that he expects “more black world champions. ” and hoped for a future where “a black world champion vs a black challenger” can main event a Pay-Per-View.
The year that brought Knight into the TNT spotlight has also made him talk like someone already writing ahead. He insisted he sees 2026 as his next leap. As TNT Champion. Knight said. “2026 is the year of The Jet. ” and that he will keep “peeling back layers. ” revealing who he is “inside the ring” and “outside of the ring.” His message to fans was that they’re going to see “all of those different things that make me who I am” and “why I am so different every time you see me on your screen.”.
In wrestling, quick rises can disappear just as fast as they arrive. Knight’s story has moved the other direction. Signed in March 2025, he debuted against Jay White and immediately threaded his way into tag-team visibility beside Will Ospreay. He turned that rivalry into a tournament stage match at Dynasty. then expanded into trios gold with JetSpeed and into singles gold at the next major opportunity—Casino Gauntlet success at Dynasty after Kyle Fletcher vacated the TNT title due to injury.
Now the belt isn’t just around his waist. It’s become his platform. And after everything he’s done in the span of just over a year—wins, titles, and a statement victory over MJF—Knight’s claim sounds less like hype than a promise: The Jet has taken flight, and he’s not landing anytime soon.
