Kenzie and Corbin’s “secret” hook-up sparks backlash

Love Island USA viewers are questioning whether Kenzie Annis and Corbin Mims were trying to sneak around after a June 11 episode showed them in bed as the cameras rolled—while Kenzie brushed it off with a comment about their “physical connection.”

The villa lights went out and the cameras kept rolling, but it was what happened between Kenzie Annis and Corbin Mims that sent Love Island USA viewers into instant speculation.

On the Thursday. June 11 episode of the Peacock series. the in-villa nighttime shots showed each couple in bed after lights out. For some audience members. it was the view of Kenzie and Corbin that looked like it could only mean one thing: they’d managed to hook up in private—at least as “private” as life in Fiji ever gets.

Kenzie and Corbin never directly addressed the moment. But Kenzie did nod toward their chemistry, telling viewers, “We have a really good physical connection in the bed.”

That line landed right in the middle of a season where fans say the show has been filled with sexual “journeys” taking place in the communal bedroom—moments that come with far less privacy than most people would expect.

Amaya “Papaya” Espinal. who has spoken about what it’s like to live through those nights. joked on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in July 2025 that the Islanders use a code word for sex: “journey.” She said. “We did have a code word [for sex which was] ‘journey’ and it kind of traumatizes me now. When somebody outside is like, ‘Oh, a journey?’ I’m like, ‘How dare you!’ I am clutching my pearls.”.

She followed that up with the blunt reality of what it meant in the villa: “People were having journeys.”

And when the room doesn’t really offer true privacy. the awkward part can be just as loud as anything else. Amaya said she felt it first-hand at night. adding. ”I’m like. ‘Can I sleep?’ We already don’t get enough sleep around here and then you hear [sexual noises]. The earplugs [we got] were not plugging?. Those were low quality earplugs because we were still able to hear things. Especially if there’s a couple right next to you.”.

Not everyone’s story from the villa has been framed through discomfort, though. Amaya was also asked about her time in The Hideaway with fellow winner Bryan Arenales—who she has since split from.

“It was steamy, all right. We were hot and we were sweating. It really was a great feeling to just have that private and intimate moment,” she said. “We actually do want to talk to each other and we love being next to each other. The next morning, we were just sitting and we were just quiet. It was beautiful and silent.
I really did feel like I found my best friend where I could yap away or have a quieter moment.”.

And when asked whether Bryan really did “eat that kitty in The Hideaway,” Amaya answered coyly, “Well he definitely took that advice. We had a great night.”

For viewers watching Kenzie and Corbin. the fascination is basically the collision of two realities: the show’s “code” and the fact that the villa rarely gives anyone the kind of privacy they’d need to actually pull off something “secret.” Earlier in the season. another confession echoed that same tension.

Chris Seeley quietly revealed to Bryan that he “folded” the night prior with Huda Mustafa. saying. “I wasn’t going to tell anybody. [But] I couldn’t do it any more. I really tried [to hold out]. I just didn’t want to tell the other boys.” In a confessional. Chris later explained that sex helped his connection with Huda evolve. noting. “I feel like that was just a great step into our physical connection that we probably don’t show in front of everyone else. ” and adding. “It definitely made us feel stronger in our physical connection. That is really all I can say about that.”.

New episodes of Love Island USA are released six days a week—except for Wednesdays—on Peacock, keeping the attention on couples and their most closely guarded moments even as the cameras keep finding them.

  1. I think y’all are reading into it too much. It’s a reality show, the cameras are always around. If anything it’s just editing making it look “secret.”

  2. Why is “physical connection” even a thing she has to say like that? Sounds like they were trying to be sneaky but still on camera… and then everyone acts shocked. Also “journeys” is kinda messed up if it’s code, like how do they not get in trouble for that?

  3. Love Island is basically porn for people who pretend it’s wholesome. The fact they’re saying lights out but cameras still rolling is the real scandal, not whether they “hooked up.” And I swear they use that “journey” word because producers told them to, like PR training or something.
