Keelan White scores twice as Ottawa tops Montreal

Keelan White caught two first-half touchdown passes as the Ottawa Redblacks defeated the Montreal Alouettes 27-12 in a CFL pre-season game on Friday.
Keelan White didn’t wait for the pre-season to settle in. Friday night at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, he hauled in two touchdown passes in the first half as the Ottawa Redblacks rolled to a 27-12 win over the Montreal Alouettes.
Ottawa quarterback Jake Maier connected with White on touchdown throws of 12 yards and four yards in the opening half. giving the Redblacks an early rhythm they wouldn’t really lose. Bryson Barnes added a nine-yard rushing touchdown, and Ottawa’s field-goal game made sure the lead stayed comfortable. Paul Geelen kicked Ottawa field goals from 40 and 26 yards as the Redblacks led 17-4 at halftime.
In total, Maier completed 10 of 14 pass attempts for 155 yards. Barnes was efficient through the air as well, going 8-for-8 for 109 yards. Cade McDonald contributed heavily for Ottawa, finishing with four catches for 73 yards.
Montreal found the end zone late. Shomari Lawrence scored a two-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. but the Alouettes couldn’t turn the comeback into anything more than a final scoreline check. Jose Carlos Maltos did miss a 52-yard field-goal attempt, though he did convert from 21 yards in the first half.
Dustin Crum paced Montreal’s passing attack, completing 15 of 20 passes for 130 yards.
CFL pre-season action continues Saturday with the defending champion Saskatchewan Roughriders scheduled to host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Edmonton Elks visit the B.C. Lions, and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats host the Toronto Argonauts.
