Katie Stewart’s late homer sends Texas past Nebraska

Sunday afternoon in Oklahoma City had the feel of a game slipping away—until Katie Stewart put a stop to it.
Reigning national champion and No. 2 Texas staved off elimination, rallying past No. 4 Nebraska 3-1 to advance to the Women’s College World Series semifinals. Stewart. who had been hitless in the WCWS to that point. delivered a three-run home run to left field to break open a contest in which national player of the year Jordy Frahm had carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning.
Frahm did everything right early for Nebraska. She launched a leadoff solo home run in the first inning. giving the Cornhuskers their only offense earlier in the game. But when Texas finally struck in the late swing moments, Nebraska didn’t have an answer. Teagan Kavan allowed just three hits the rest of the way as Texas closed it out and ended Nebraska’s season.
Nebraska’s run came to an end with the final out Sunday, closing the book on Frahm’s illustrious college career. Her resume includes two national championships and a central role in Oklahoma’s title success before she transferred back to her home state.
The tournament is now down to eight teams. and by the end of Sunday the field will be cut in half. No. 8 UCLA meets No. 11 Texas Tech in a matchup between two of the most powerful lineups in the country. The Bruins. the national leaders in home runs. have already left the yard six times through their first two games in Oklahoma City. and they’ve continued leaning on an offense that can change a game with one swing. Texas Tech. last year’s national runner-up. has been dangerous in its own right and faces another elimination test as it tries to extend its return trip to the WCWS.
Earlier in the weekend, three other teams were eliminated. Nebraska joined No. 5 Arkansas (0-2) and Mississippi State (0-2), whose seasons ended earlier in the weekend. No. 7 Tennessee and No. 1 Alabama have already secured spots in the semifinals after advancing through the winners bracket. Tennessee will face Texas on Monday afternoon. and the final semifinal spot will be determined later Sunday night to complete the four-team field.
Texas’s win reshapes the next stretch of Oklahoma City baseball: a game that started with Frahm’s dominance and a first-inning home run ended with her no-hit bid broken, and with Nebraska’s season over just as it felt like it might be able to hang on.

So she hit one homer and Texas just… saved themselves? Wild.
I swear the no-hitter thing is always “almost” until somebody gets a lucky swing. Nebraska was up? then nope. Women’s college softball is way more stressful than it should be.
Not to be that guy but how does a team have a no-hitter through the sixth and still lose 3-1? Seems like they just threw it away. Also Texas always finds a way, I guess.
Okay but Jordy Frahm transferring back to her home state like… that’s the real plot twist? Thought Nebraska was gonna cruise into the WCWS semifinals for sure. And now it’s down to 8 teams, half by Sunday like that matters to my life at all lol.
