Katerina Siniakova achieves a women’s doubles first after winning 2026 US Open with American Taylor Townsend
With three Americans competing in the women’s doubles US Open final on Friday afternoon, it could have been easy for the home crowd in Queens, New York to overlook Czech Katerina Siniakova. Greatness cannot be denied, however. Competing alongside Taylor Townsend in Arthur Ashe Stadium, one of the best doubles players of all-time just enhanced her already amazing legacy with an unprecedented accomplishment.
Siniakova and Townsend recovered after losing the opening set 5-7 and breezed past Robin Montgomery and Ashlyn Krueger in the final two sets (6-0, 6-2). They complete the career doubles Grand Slam as a pair, making Siniakova the first player to ever achieve that special feat with two different partners. She won seven majors with countrywoman and two-time singles Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova.

Adaptability is crucial in this sport, and the 30-year-old has masterfully pivoted over the last few years. This is not a one-woman team, however. Townsend, who upset two ranked opponents in the singles draw before falling in the Round of 16 to two-time defending champ Aryna Sabalenka, caps off a notable US Open run with a momentous triumph. The duo claimed the Wimbledon title in 2024, took the Australian Open crown last year and won the French Open back in June.
Siniakova now has 12 major championships in women’s doubles, with the remaining one coming beside Coco Gauff in 2024. Additionally, she and Dutchman Sem Verbeek brought home the 2025 Wimbledon mixed doubles title.
Considering the excellence that Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend are displaying right now, the Grand Slam total may only rise. There is plenty of time to look ahead, though. This history-making performance warrants an extended celebration.
