Kate Mansi Leaves General Hospital, Cites New Projects

Emmy-winning actress Kate Mansi has decided not to renew her contract on ABC’s General Hospital, saying new projects require her full attention and that her husband’s upcoming production filming abroad means she needs flexibility to travel while continuing to

Kate Mansi has already stepped away from the set—at least for Kristina Corinthos-Davis.

The Emmy-winning actress, who has played the role on ABC’s General Hospital for the past three years, has decided not to renew her contract. She has completed taping her final scenes for the show, and in the wake of the news, she made it clear the departure was her choice.

Speaking with Stephanie Sloane for her Soap Steph newsletter. Mansi said she left for a few reasons. framing the decision as both practical and necessary. “I’ve made the very difficult decision to leave General Hospital,” she shared. “I have a few new projects that require my full attention and with my husband [Matt McInnis] currently producing a series filming primarily abroad. I needed the flexibility to travel while continuing to develop and work in Los Angeles.”.

Mansi’s husband, Matt McInnis, is producing the upcoming Tomb Raider series, starring Sophie Turner, which films in England.

General Hospital’s support for Mansi’s exit was also made clear. Executive producer Frank Valentini told Soap Steph, “We love Kate and support her decision to leave. The door is always open, and we appreciate all that she added to the show these past three years.”

Her time as Kristina wasn’t just another chapter—it came with specific milestones she said she fought hard to bring to life. Mansi pointed to two parts of the role that stood out when Frank Valentini first approached her. “When Frank first approached me about the role. two things deeply resonated with me: the opportunity to show my support for the queer community by playing an LGBTQ+ character. and to help tell an endometriosis storyline. ” she said. “Together, I truly feel we honored both of those stories in a way that mattered. And the fact that I got to direct was simply the icing on the cake!. Now, it feels like the right time for both Kristina and me to step into new adventures.”.

The show’s transition plan is already in motion. Per Stephanie, Mansi finished filming last month and there are no plans for her character to be recast. This Tuesday’s May 26 episode will address Kristina’s plans, and her final episode is slated to air in June.

Mansi’s soap resume stretches beyond General Hospital as well. Last year. she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role on GH—an honor she won in 2017 for Days of Our Lives. On Days of Our Lives, she played Abigail Deveraux from 2011 to 2016, and again from 2018 to 2020.

  1. I don’t get it, she’s been there 3 years and suddenly “new projects” lol. If her husband is filming in England doesn’t everyone travel for work? Sounds like PR.

  2. Wait the article said her character won’t be recast but then it says plans for Kristina… so are they just gonna like magically write her out and call it “plans”?? Also endometriosis storyline was actually the good part, hate to see it end.

  3. I saw Sophie Turner and thought this was about Tomb Raider being delayed or something. But it’s England filming and Kate’s leaving GH… honestly I’m more mad about the queer story/endo story because those usually get dropped. Glad she directed though, that’s cool. June better not be some random exit with no closure.
