Karoline Leavitt’s Decision To Flaunt Luxury Gifts Amid Rising Costs Is… Quite The Choice

Outgoing press secretary Karoline Leavitt decided to gift her social media followers with a little F-U on her 29th birthday.

Leavitt showed off some luxury gifts she received from her husband, Nicholas Riccio — and she decided to do so during rising inflation and mass economic uncertainty spurred by her soon-to-be-former boss, President Donald Trump.

Leavitt published an Instagram story Monday that featured a photo of two Louis Vuitton gift boxes adorned with blue ribbons, according to screenshots on People and The Daily Beast.

The photo also features a bouquet and three pink envelopes, addressed to “Mom,” Momma,” and “My wife.”

The Daily Beast notes that it’s unclear what the boxes contained.

What makes this particular post feel like a troll — or a modern embodiment of “Let them eat cake” — is that it’s not the first time Leavitt has pulled this kind of move.

In May, she received backlash after posting a similar photo of a Louis Vuitton box while holding a note on the brand’s stationery that read, “Happy Mother’s Day, love Nico & Vivi” — which refers to Leavitt and Riccio’s two children, Nicholas, who was born in July 2024, and Viviana, who was born in May 2026. Leavitt and Riccio, who married in January 2025, have a 32-year age gap.

Social media users at the time were pretty grossed out by a public servant showing off her very pricey presents.

Earlier that same month, Leavitt also posted a photo to Instagram of her holding Viviana in her daughter’s all-pink nursery, which included a $1,375 Hermes blanket.

It should be noted that Leavitt’s wealth-signaling posts have also prompted social media users to fixate on the notable age gap between Leavitt and her husband, with many making jokes about how she’s perpetuating gold digger and tradwife stereotypes — the latter of which is very much supported by the MAGA movement.

Although it’s unclear why Leavitt keeps on publishing these kinds of posts — especially since she’s received backlash for them — what is clear is why they prompt outrage.

Trump’s incredibly unpopular war with Iran has caused gas prices to soar. Over the weekend, the president made economic matters even worse when he decided to start a trade war with Canada, which will likely spike the prices of several everyday goods. His decision to pick this kind of fight with one of the country’s biggest trading partners so close to the midterm elections is such a bad one that even The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board felt compelled to call it out.
