Karen Bass Orders Probe After LAPD Kills Jameson

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has ordered a probe into the LAPD officers who shot and killed Jameson, a mixed golden retriever, Saint Bernard, and poodle, during a Saturday response to a woman’s distress call at an apartment complex.
Moments after the Knicks celebrated a 94-90 victory over the Spurs to win the NBA Finals trophy, Jameson—described as a mixed golden retriever, Saint Bernard, and poodle—was fatally shot by LAPD officers.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is now demanding answers. She ordered an investigation into the officers who killed the dog after police responded to Saturday’s distress call of a woman screaming at an apartment complex. In a press release. Bass said. “every life lost to violence is a tragedy. and we know that the devastating loss of Jameson will be felt by his family forever.”.
Bass also said she personally spoke with LAPD Chief of Police Jim McDonnell to ensure accountability for any wrongdoing, adding that she will be keeping tabs on the “transparent and thorough” investigation.
The sequence leading up to the shooting is where the heartbreak and tension collide. During the incident, officers ordered the canine’s owner and avid Knicks fan, Marie Marseille, to secure Jameson. Police say the dog dashed at them, prompting them to open fire and kill the pooch.
For Marseille, the grief has not ended with the shots. She tells TMZ that the LAPD has yet to offer an apology for killing her beloved Jameson.
Bass’s order puts the focus squarely on what comes next—whether the investigation will satisfy a family still reeling, and whether responsibility can be clearly established after a moment that began as a championship celebration.
