Kacey Musgraves Faces Backlash Over Walmart Size Limits

Kacey Musgraves is being called out after a new “Kacey Lee” clothing collection with Lee and Walmart launched without full size inclusivity. A plus-size creator says the line’s extended options are limited and that Musgraves’ comments in response came across a
When Kacey Musgraves teamed up with Lee and Walmart for an exclusive fashion drop. the promise was a chance for her fans to shop something new together. But less than a day after the “Kacey Lee” collection landed. a plus-size creator was publicly pointing to what she called a painful gap in who that collection was actually made for.
On May 19—the same day the collection dropped—Instagram creator Megan Ixim. who goes by @msgigggles. posted criticism aimed directly at the size range. The women’s clothing in the “Kacey Lee” line goes up to a size 18/XXL. while the swimwear ranges from XS to 3X. Megan said that was “leaving” her frustrated, arguing that extended options were not available across the full line.
The collection, marketed as expansive, includes over 100 pieces: dresses, tops, jeans, shorts, sleepwear, swimwear, and accessories for both men and women. There are also items for pets. Yet Megan’s complaint was about the missing breadth of plus sizes within that wide catalog.
In her May 19 Instagram video, Megan told her followers, “Guess who’s being excluded again?. That’s right. fat people.” She said Walmart and Lee were selling extended sizes “but online. ” and “from further review. very. very limited options. not the entire line.” She added that. in her view. only swimwear seemed to reflect truly extended sizing rather than the rest of the merchandise.
Megan connected the situation to a pattern she says she’s seen before. She claimed Musgraves previously ran limited sizes in her Reformation collaboration in September 2024. pointing out that while “extended sizes” were available. it was only across “three designs instead of the entire line.” “I’m disappointed. Kacey, what’s going on?” she said.
After Megan’s initial video went out, Musgraves responded in the comments of Megan’s post with what Megan described as a dismissive, off-tone message. In that comment section, Musgraves wrote: “Hiii not in my control at all. Sorry you’re disappointed. Hope this helps! “
Megan’s reaction was sharp. In a follow-up video. she called Musgraves’ response “disingenuous. ” arguing that because Musgraves is the “entire reason and face of this launch. ” she should have pushed back harder with Walmart or Lee. Megan said. “Love that you responded to a little ol influencer like me. ” before adding: “As the person who is the entire reason and face of this launch it feels like this would be something you could push back on to @walmart or to @leejeans your plus-size fans love you.”.
Megan also said she and other fans wanted “our moment in the sun supporting you, in store, just like everyone else,” adding that asking for fuller inclusivity “isn’t a direct slight to you but a reason to work towards more true inclusivity in the future.”
On TikTok over the weekend, Megan expanded on the personal and emotional impact of the situation. She identified herself as “Megan Ixim. ” “Miss Giggles” on social media. and a “content creator” and “fat activist. ” saying she has worked “on and off in plus-size fashion over the last decade.” She also described how she used to feel about Musgraves’ releases: Megan said she was a Kacey Musgraves fan. owned “about five of the records on vinyl. ” and has “seen her twice in concert.”.
Her disappointment. she said. landed when she realized the collection’s expanded sizes weren’t actually available in the way she expected. She described being told by friends who went to stores in person that none of the plus-size items would be stocked or available in store. She also pointed to an especially frustrating comparison: Megan said there were “more items available for dogs than there were plus sizes.”.
That moment. she said. helped shape the tone of her first response video—and she said that Musgraves’ comment made things worse. Megan said: “One, absolutely shocked that somebody who is having a huge momentous time in their career responded to me. I am a very small content creator.” She described it as initially “pretty cool. ” until she realized. in her words. “how absolutely condescending this response was to me. our plus-size community. and her fans.”.
Megan also addressed the broader context of being a fat creator online. She said she’s “used to this kind of reaction and fat phobia. ” adding. “Is this normal behavior for someone like me. a fat Latina posting on the internet?. Absolutely.” She said she’s received “a lot worse than this” and that the backlash she described as “par for the course” was still something that “shocked” her when it came from a “media-trained pop star who should know better.”.
According to Megan, Musgraves has not apologized for the comment, and Megan said she doesn’t expect an apology. She also doubted more sizes will be added soon, saying “nobody really cares enough to do anything.” Still, she ended with a hope that the conversation could push brands to change.
Megan urged that inclusivity can be demanded and achieved, citing examples from other launches. She said Blogilates “demanded plus sizes in store” when Blogilates did a Target launch. and she pointed to Megan The Stallion’s Walmart launch as an example of “exclusive sizes available in-store.” She said. “We can and do more. We should ask more from our celebrity.”.
As for Musgraves, the situation appears unresolved in public. The drama remains fresh, with Musgraves yet to publicly apologize or respond further to the calls for broader, in-store size inclusivity.
And for Megan, the fight isn’t just about one collection. In a separate post reacting to the wider online fallout. she wrote that calling out a lack of inclusivity in a Walmart line left her “exhausting” and dealing with being blasted and criticized across platforms. saying it felt like “people were ready to back me up and support me against blatant disregard from a pop-star.”.
The “Kacey Lee” collection is still on shelves in the spotlight of social media—but the size range controversy is now the part that won’t go away.
