Amazon is moving to tighten the way its nonfiction shows get made—starting Monday, June 8.

On Friday. Jenn Levy. head of unscripted and documentary TV. unveiled a reorganization that merges the production teams behind unscripted programming. doc series. and MGM Alternative. The unified operation will be led by Justin Dudek. MGM Alternative’s SVP of physical production. who will oversee operations across all three groups as “the single-threaded leader owning all of nonfiction production. ” according to Levy’s note to staff.

Levy framed the change as a practical step toward building a “new Nonfiction initiative.” In her memo to staff. she said the goal is a unified nonfiction production organization that brings “Unscripted. Doc Series. and MGM Alternative production together under a single leader”—streamlining processes. establishing shared best practices. and creating “an even more efficient operation as we grow our slate.”.

The staff memo also laid out specific reporting shifts. Amazon MGM Studios’ Eugene Caldwell and his team will now report to Dudek. The nonfiction postproduction team, however, will continue to report to Mark Hoerr.

Reporting structures for Big Fish and Evolution production management will also remain unchanged.

Levy’s wider role is part of the backdrop. She joined Amazon MGM Studios in January as head of unscripted and documentary TV. after previously serving as president of production company 32 Flavors. In that role, she oversees Amazon MGM Unscripted, MGM Alternative, Big Fish Entertainment and Evolution Media.

Dudek’s responsibilities reflect how central he is expected to be in the new setup. As SVP of physical production for MGM Alternative. he oversees production across competition series. game shows. docuseries and branded content for franchises including “Survivor. ” “The Voice. ” “Shark Tank” and “The Real Housewives.” The memo also notes that Dudek played a key role in transitioning MGM Alternative into Amazon Studios systems following the acquisition.

Levy said Dudek’s experience across formats and platforms—and his “institutional knowledge of how we work”—is what makes him the right person to lead the unified team.

  3. Why does postproduction still report to Mark Hoerr then? That’s kinda the whole point of “single-threaded” leader, right? Sounds like they didn’t fully commit to the reorg.

I’m confused because Survivor and The Voice are huge but the article makes it sound like this is just reporting lines, like that changes everything lol. Also “On Friday.
