JUST IN: Mitch McConnell Announces He’s Back Home Following Lengthy Recovery from Health Scare

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced Thursday that he returned home following a weeks-long recovery from a sudden health scare.
The statement, obtained by CNN’s Manu Raju, read:
“Earlier today, I was discharged from the rehabilitation center to continue my recovery at home. Elaine and I are grateful for the many well wishes and support from friends, colleagues, and Kentuckians, and for the attentive care I’ve received from excellent doctors, nurses, therapists, and hospital staff.
“On the advice of my doctors, I’ll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and I’ll continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business.”
McConnell, 84, was rushed to the hospital on June 14 after he was reportedly found unconscious in his home. Due to a lack of immediate updates from his office, many began to speculate that his condition was dire. Trump ally Laura Loomer, for example, baselessly claimed the Kentucky senator was brain-dead.
In an effort to quell all the wild speculation, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) made repeated calls for McConnell to reach out to him directly and assure him that he was OK. After apparently hearing nothing from McConnell, Beshear gave him an ultimatum: speak up or resign.
In the weeks since his initial hospitalization, McConnell’s office has provided multiple photos showing he was alive and well. McConnell also provided statements detailing his care and recovery. He was eventually moved from a hospital to a rehabilitation center.
