July 22 in London Looms as Galaxy Unpacked
Even without an official announcement, the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked is widely expected to happen this summer—potentially July 22 in London—centered on new foldables, updated smartwatches, and a closer look at Samsung and Google’s Android XR smart glasses.
The rumor mill is already humming at full volume, and it isn’t being subtle: Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked is widely expected to land this summer—possibly July 22 in London. The exact date may still be fluid, but the shape of the event feels increasingly clear.
What’s likely coming into focus first is a foldable-heavy lineup. Samsung is expected to unveil new Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip phones, along with new Galaxy Watches. And tucked into the excitement is the possibility of a sharper look at Samsung and Google’s Android XR smart glasses—an item the industry has been watching since they were teased at Google I/O 2026.
A wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 is one of the biggest storylines. Leaks suggest Samsung is considering a foldable that trades the narrower design of the current Galaxy Z Fold lineup for something wider—when opened. more like a small tablet. The rumored dimensions point to an inner display of 7.8 inches and an outer display of 5.4 inches. with the outer screen expected to be wider so the phone can feel more like a standard handset when it’s closed. Camera details in the leaks also lean toward change: two rear cameras are rumored. compared with the three on the current Fold models.
There’s also a naming and positioning question wrapped in the leaks. When early rumors surfaced. the wider Fold model was hinted to be an offshoot from the main series—something like a Z Fold Special Edition. More recent claims, however, suggest Samsung may position this wider phone as the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8.
At the same time, there’s talk of a higher-end sibling: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Under this rumored approach. the company would keep a more familiar look and feature set—something closer to last year’s standard Fold model in both aspect ratio and overall design. The leaks describe a less visible display crease than its predecessor, alongside a potential move to a new Snapdragon chip. Camera and charging also appear in the rumor mix, including a 200-megapixel main camera and 45W charging.
The “Ultra” label itself may end up being as consequential as the spec sheet. One heavily rumored name for Apple’s foldable is the iPhone Ultra. and Samsung’s unconfirmed approach could be trying to match that energy. There’s another practical pressure point too: the source suggests that AI data-center demand has been driving memory shortages and pushing up memory prices. which could make a price hike for the lineup more likely. If that happens. Samsung may be betting that the “Ultra” tier can justify a higher cost—especially in a market where incremental upgrades can be a tougher sell. The 2025 Galaxy Fold model was already $2,000.
Meanwhile, Samsung’s cheaper angle is expected to come from the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Leaks say the Flip 8 would include a new hinge design aimed at reducing the display crease. Weight is also part of the pitch: it’s rumored to be 180g, up from the Flip 7’s 188g.
On processing, the leaks point to a return to a Snapdragon processor after last year’s model used a Samsung Exynos chip—specifically naming the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Display sizes in the rumor mix remain consistent with expectations: a 6.9-inch inner display and a 4.1-inch cover display.
But the question hovering over the Flip 8 is whether it’s enough. If upgrades are limited to the hinge and the chip swap—and if a RAMageddon-driven price increase pushes costs higher—then a “hard to love” launch becomes a real possibility. In the same breath as these rumors. there’s speculation that Samsung might axe the Flip line after this generation if the next model doesn’t move the needle.
The Unpacked spotlight is also expected to land on wearables. Updated Galaxy Watch models typically arrive during the summer event. and leaks point to a Galaxy Watch 9 with mostly incremental changes: a new case color and new bands. The rumored platform update includes the Snapdragon Wear Elite processor. and on the software side. it’s said to receive new health-tracking features.
For the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, the story appears similarly subtle. Leaks suggest a boxier look, thinner bezels with number markings, and more muted accent colors on the side buttons.
There’s also a downside for tradition in the rumored watch lineup. At least one leak suggests Samsung will skip the Galaxy Watch Classic this year—the model known for its rotating bezel and a more traditional watch design.
The event could also carry a tech-leaning surprise: Android XR smart glasses. Samsung and Google teased their first Android XR-powered smart glasses at Google I/O 2026. and if the companies’ stated timeline holds. Unpacked could be where more details finally surface. The rumored first model is audio-focused. developed with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. and it includes an ever-present Gemini voice assistant. The leaks also point to cameras built into the glasses for contextual AI—framed as their answer to Meta’s Ray-Ban specs.
A second Google-Samsung pair with a built-in display is reportedly in the pipeline for 2027. Google previously said the audio glasses would arrive this fall. so readers shouldn’t expect an immediate release right after Samsung’s Unpacked event. Still. the smartphone and smartwatch crowd at the show could get something that matters more than a date: likely. a fuller look that may include pricing and a release timeline.
All of it—foldables, watches, and Android XR glasses—arrives under the same pressure cooker: Samsung is trying to make a summer event feel like a turning point, even if much of what’s coming depends on how the final specs land and what the price tags do.

July 22 for Galaxy Unpacked? Cool I guess. I just hope my phone gets cheaper after.
Wait so is this the day they show the smart glasses? Because I swear I saw something about Android XR like a year ago and nothing happened lol. London too which is random.
I don’t get the hype for foldables. If it’s wider then won’t it just break easier? Also July 22 sounds like it’s basically confirmed but they keep saying “maybe” so who knows. Android XR glasses though… feels like they’re gonna be $500+ and everyone will pretend they “need” them.
Man remember Google I/O 2026 teased those glasses and now it’s all Samsung this and that. I bet the real reason is just to distract from something else going on, like always. Still, if they’re doing new Z Fold 8 stuff I might actually upgrade, even though I hate the price and the scratches on the screen thing. Also London weather gonna be wild for a tech event.
