Taylor Frankie Paul didn’t just hear a court update on Monday—she received a direct change to how she gets to be with her 2-year-old son.
In a virtual hearing tied to her custody battle with Dakota Mortensen. a judge lifted the mandatory supervision placed on Taylor’s parent time with Ever Mortensen. The judge framed it as a step forward. saying. “I’m encouraged and I think we’re moving in the right direction. From now until the next hearing, I’m going to recommend supervision be lifted.”.
The decision also reshaped the week-to-week reality of their co-parenting arrangement. The reality star can have Ever on alternative weekends and one midweek day each week, with that midweek visit not overnight. The judge added, “We want that day to be consistent so we are on a set schedule.”
Holidays remain a dividing line. Dakota will stay the “custodial parent” on holidays, while the court continues to require both Taylor and Dakota to keep their distance—100 feet away from each other—and to avoid trashing one another.
The judge also reiterated why the court is still keeping guardrails in place. “I certainly think that both of them have a sense that they are the victims and not the perpetrators and I get that. The main concern of the court is to prevent further acts of domestic violence and we can have the hope that we see the parents being in the same place getting along but now is not that time.”.
This case has been building for months. anchored in an investigation that began in February after police investigated the former couple over an alleged domestic violence incident between them. The situation led to custody and protective-order actions that landed Taylor and Dakota on separate tracks in the early stages.
Taylor ultimately wasn’t charged over what happened. Still, the legal process moved ahead. Dakota filed for a temporary protective order and custody of their child the following month. and a judge granted it—along with taking away Taylor’s parent time until they went to court. Dakota also filed for and received a temporary protective order against Taylor.
In April, the judge granted Dakota’s request in a more detailed way: Taylor received supervised time with Ever for eight hours per week, while Dakota maintained primary custody.
Once the mutual protective orders were in place, Taylor and Dakota were both required to stay 100 feet away from each other for the next three years. With those distance and protective requirements settled, what remained was the custody issue—until Monday’s hearing.
Taylor’s own words suggest how personal the months apart have felt. The day before Monday’s ruling. she posted on Instagram Stories about missing her baby boy. saying. “I think all the projects and redoing is a fresh start but mainly a coping mechanism to distract from the fact my baby hasn’t been here for months now. aside visits.”.
The next step is scheduled for July 8, when Dakota and Taylor return to court. Until then, the judge is recommending that supervision be lifted, and the schedule will run with alternative weekends and a consistent midweek, non-overnight day each week.
For anyone trying to follow along. the stakes are clear: Ever Mortensen’s time with each parent has been tightly controlled through court orders aimed at preventing further domestic violence incidents—while the relationship between Taylor and Dakota remains under restrictions designed to keep conflict from escalating again.
