Josh Hart drops hilarious $131 million reaction to max extension report

Josh Hart provides a funny response to a report that the Knicks will not be offering him a max contract extension

As the New York Knicks prepare to defend their title, Josh Hart is waiting on a contract extension.

However, a report from Hoopsview said the Knicks will not give Hart a max contract extension worth a purported $132 million over four years. Instead, he will be offered a three-year $60-62 million deal, per James L. Edwards of The Athletic.

In response, Hart responded with a hilarious humility and seemed willing to take a tiny pay cut.

“Darn, was hoping for that 132! I’ll take 131 instead.”

Last year, Hart finished the season averaging 12.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game in 66 appearances. He also shot 50.8% from the field and 41.3% from the 3-point line.

In the playoffs, Hart averaged 11.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists. Meanwhile, during the Finals against the Spurs, Hart averaged 9.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game.

Hart has been with the Knicks since 2023, when he was traded from the Portland Trail Blazers. At first, Hart took on a rotational role.

The following year, he played in 81 games and helped lead the Knicks to the postseason. Hart began down the path of achieving his potential during the 2024-25 season. He started in 77 games and averaged a career-high 37.6 minutes per game. Along the way, Hart averaged 13.6 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.

Meanwhile, the Knicks began to grow into contenders.

As New York looks to repeat, the roster makeup will look somewhat different. They traded away Mitchell Robinson to the Boston Celtics. Andre Drummond will be brought into the mix.

Nevertheless, the core of Hart, Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, and Mikal Bridges will remain intact.
