Josh Gad has boarded Warner Bros.’ upcoming “Ocean’s Eleven” prequel, joining a cast built around Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper. The heist movie is moving toward production with a June 25, 2027 release date.
Josh Gad didn’t just add another credit to his résumé—he stepped into a crew already being shaped for Warner Bros.’ upcoming “Ocean’s Eleven” prequel.
The “Frozen” star boarded the film Wednesday, rounding out the ensemble led by Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper. Gad is said to be taking on a significant role in the forthcoming heist movie, which will also be directed by Cooper.
This casting update lands as the prequel inches closer to production. Just a day earlier, Umberto Gonzalez reported that Oscar nominee Monica Barbaro had closed a deal to join the movie.
Cooper is set to write, direct, produce, and star in the prequel alongside Robbie. Robbie is producing with husband Tom Ackerley through their company LuckyChap, while Lea Pictures’ Weston Middleton is also producing.
The filmmakers have kept the plot details under wraps, but the creative foundation is clear. The screenplay was written by Cooper based on characters created by George Clayton Johnson and Jack Golden Russell. Carrie Solomon previously worked on earlier drafts.
Robbie already gave audiences a tantalizing glimpse of what the story will pivot around. Back at CinemaCon. she teased that she and Cooper are set to portray the parents of Danny Ocean—played by George Clooney in the Steven Soderbergh “Ocean’s” trilogy. “Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas. two masterminds taught him everything he knows: his parents. ” Robbie said at the time. “You’ll see them in all their prime in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist.”.
Behind the scenes, the project’s executive producers include Josey McNamara, Bronte Payne, Bobby Wilhelm, Jay Roach, Michelle Graham, Lee Isaac Chung, Ashley Jay Sandberg, Gary Ross, and Olivia Milch.
With the movie currently set to release on June 25, 2027, Gad’s entry into the cast signals the next step in a prequel that’s quickly filling out its ranks—one major casting move at a time.

Josh Gad in Ocean’s again?? I swear they just keep recycling the same cast vibes.
Wait so is this the one where they already said Danny Ocean’s parents are in it? Because I thought Clooney was supposed to be the main timeline or whatever, lol.
Cooper directing and writing and starring… that feels like too much power for one guy. Also I saw Monica Barbaro somewhere else and now Josh Gad too, so it’s like they’re just grabbing everyone who’s free. I don’t even care about heist movies but the release date being 2027 makes me think it’ll get pushed.
I don’t understand how a prequel can have Danny Ocean’s parents in it if Danny is… like, still Danny. Unless they’re just doing a flashback where he meets them for the first time? Either way, Margot Robbie playing Danny Ocean’s mom and Josh Gad joining sounds kinda wild. Also Warner Bros always announces these casts and then the movie vanishes, so we’ll see.
