Jonathan Bailey Drops Out Of ‘Sunday In The Park With George’ Revival In London

EXCLUSIVE: After Ariana Grande announced she was departing the West End revival of Sunday in the Park with George last month, sources say Jonathan Bailey is now exiting the play as well. Bailey released a statement on his socials that you can read below:

“Ari is one of my dearest friends, and my support for her is unwavering. Marianne is extraordinary and one of my longest collaborators and friends,” Bailey says. “After much consideration, I have decided to also step back from Sunday in the Park with George.” 

“This brilliant, introspective musical has been a real passion project for me, and I feel incredibly lucky to have shared in its journey with this team. Among many things, the story explores the deep connection between George and Dot, a beautiful, devoted pairing, and I so look forward to seeing what the team, and the two actors who will now take on these roles, will create with it.”

“I wish the very best to the entire company with what will no doubt be an incredible production, and I will be cheering them on as they continue this journey.”

Last December, Deadline’s Baz Bamigboye reported that Grande and Bailey were thinking of re-teaming on a production of Sunday in the Park with George, with Empire Street Productions and London’s Barbican Centre confirming the next month that they’d be staging the musical with the pair, set for a summer 2027 opening. When Grande recently departed the project, the show’s producers were previously holding off on ticket sales until after Grande’s tour concludes on Sept. 1 at London’s O2 Arena.

With Bailey and Grande now departing, it is unknown what will happen now with both stars departing project. We will let you know more as it unfolds.
