Jon Hamm’s 2-Part Crime Thriller Masterpiece Is So Good, You’ll Spend the Whole Weekend Watching It

It didn’t take much convincing for me to be a Jon Hamm fan. I was impressed by his work the moment I saw the first few minutes of Mad Men. After being launched to prominence by the AMC drama, he starred in plenty of great movies. The Town, Sucker Punch, Bridesmaids, Baby Driver, No Sudden Move, and Top Gun: Maverick are all captivating. However, there’s no denying that he has done better work on television. From Black Mirror to Fargo and Landman, Hamm keeps finding himself in the best small-screen projects, and you’ll love his latest one even more.
Hamm’s currently riding high with Your Friends & Neighbors, an Apple TV series that recently received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. Created by Jonathan Tropper (best known for Banshee and Warrior), the two-season show also stars Amanda Peet, Hoon Lee, Mark Tallman, Olivia Munn, Lena Hall, and Aimee Carrero. It has been received extremely well by critics, with the first season scoring 79% on Rotten Tomatoes and the second scoring an 89%.
Jon Hamm’s Character Has the Weirdest Career Change in ‘Your Friends & Neighbors’
Career changes are common in movies and TV shows. A former special ops dude becomes a bodyguard? A former police officer becomes a private investigator? Makes sense! A former hedge fund manager becomes a thief and breaks into his neighbor’s houses? Doesn’t make sense! But that is what Jon Hamm’s character, Andrew “Coop” Cooper, does in Your Friends & Neighbors, and he ends up enjoying it more than he thought he would. Make no mistake. This isn’t just a heist story. Against the least opportune backdrop, people have affairs, families fight, murders occur, corporate deals are made, and wealthy people hold lavish parties.
Never the starry-eyed kind, Coop becomes a criminal when his boss abruptly fires him over a sexual inappropriateness complaint from a colleague he was sleeping with. He is blacklisted by the industry and later learns that his boss faked the complaint to take over his lucrative client accounts. Getting back in the game will be hard, so Coop resorts to stealing to maintain his expensive lifestyle. Ever smart, he focuses on stealing and selling expensive items that aren’t used by the owners every day. Meaning it will take forever for anyone to notice they are missing.
Beyond the plot, the show’s set design and cinematography are marvelous. Beautiful houses, trees, supercars…. You name it. Every single thing adds to the air of opulence. And, away from Coop, you’ll be intrigued by many other thrill-seeking characters. There’s a Breaking Bad feel to the proceedings, too. The critically acclaimed series is no longer discussed as much as it once was, but in recent years its influence has soaked more and more into television. Your Friends & Neighbors is a perfect example of how to draw inspiration from something without walking the exact path.
Season 3 of ‘Your Friends & Neighbors’ Is In Production
There’s a current running joke on the internet that Apple TV spends $100 million to make a show and $0 to advertise it. That’s kinda true, as many of the streamer’s best shows remain hidden gems. But once you find them, you’ll be glad you did. Better yet, you’re always guaranteed that your favorite show will have a longer, healthier run. Here, niche critically acclaimed shows are often granted two or three seasons to build an audience, unlike Netflix or Prime Video, where low first season numbers always lead to instant cancellation.
Therefore, it’s not surprising that Your Friends & Neighbors will be returning for Season 3. Production officially kicked off in May 2026 in New York and Connecticut. Season 1 and Season 2 both released in Spring, so Season 3 should also come out at around the same time next year… Unless Jon Hamm gets hired as the first American James Bond and is asked to start immediately. Not gonna happen, right?
Jonathan Tropper also continues to pack in more stars into his project. After James Marsden’s impressive showing in Season 2, the series creator is bringing in more big names. According to Deadline, Michelle Monaghan will be playing Coop’s new love interest. I liked her a lot in Season 3 of The White Lotus, and I have no doubt she’ll be equally excellent in the Apple TV series.
