Joe Rogan Uses Mike Tyson As Cautionary Example For Conor McGregor

UFC commentator Joe Rogan has issued a tight warning to Conor McGregor amid his injury recovery absence.
After a wait of five years, Conor McGregor returned to MMA at UFC 329, where he lost to Max Holloway within a few seconds. Suffering an ACL injury, McGregor ruled himself out of the fight and later underwent surgery to repair it.
However, since the surgery, McGregor has maintained an extremely active presence on social media, talking about his healing process and comeback fight in 2027. Despite the hype on social media, UFC commentator Joe Rogan remains doubtful of McGregor’s health. Rogan believes that fighters like McGregor can never get their prime back.
During The Joe Rogan Experience #2544 (via EssentiallySports), Chris Williamson and Rogan opened up on McGregor’s situation by using boxing legend Mike Tyson as an example.
“You can only maintain that level of RPMs for so long before you just go crazy. Because it’s too hard,” Rogan said. “It’s everything about you. It’s not a sustainable thing. The peak performance of the elite athlete, Mike Tyson when he was 20 years old, Roy Jones Jr. in his prime- you can’t keep that up. It’s too hard. You keep it up for a little while, but eventually your body’s going to fall apart. Your knees are going to give out. You’re going to have back problems. You’re going to break your hands. Something’s going to go, and then you’re going to be compromised.”
“And a lot of these guys, they look the same. They get out there, and they’re ripped. They’ve got six-packs. They’re bouncing around, but they know there’s something wrong. They know their elbow sucks. They know their neck is f—d up. They know they probably need a back operation.”
Despite McGregor’s pre-fight intense workout sessions and commendable physical shape, he suffered an early injury in the fight, which aligns well with Rogan’s comments. While no return opponent for McGregor has been fixed, he wishes to come back and have his last fight in 2027.
