Jodie Sweetin says where she stands with ‘Full House’ costar Candace Cameron Bure
Jodie Sweetin says her differences with Candace Cameron Bure haven’t gotten in the way of their friendship.
“In the same way that DJ and Steph are opposite personalities, so are Candace and I,” Sweetin told SheKnows in a recent interview.
“It’s always been a sisterly thing between us. Just like any family, it’s up and down.”
‘Full House’ cast
The two played sisters Stephanie and D.J. Tanner on Full House from 1987 to 1995. The characters were the older sisters of Michelle Tanner, played by Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen.
The sitcom also starred the late Bob Saget as their father, Danny Tanner, along with John Stamos as their uncle Jesse Katsopolis and Dave Coulier as Joey Gladstone. Andrea Barber played D.J.’s best friend, Kimmy Gibbler.
Sweetin and Cameron Bure later reunited with the cast for Fuller House, which aired on Netflix from 2016 to 2020.
Political views
Sweetin and Cameron Bure don’t always agree on politics or social issues, but their friendship has continued over the years.
Cameron Bure has been open about her support for President Donald Trump and conservative views. She’s also a conservative Christian and has worked on several faith-based projects with Great American Family.
Meanwhile, Sweetin has spoken publicly about her progressive beliefs and her support for the LGBTQ+ community.
In 2023, Sweetin said she would donate her earnings to queer organizations after Great American Family bought the TV movie she produced and starred in.
Still care about each other
Sweetin previously talked about her differences with Cameron Bure during an April appearance on the “McBride Rewind” podcast.
“[People often] pit me and Candace against each other, and the thing is, at the end of the day, her name has never come out of my mouth,” Sweetin said.
“This is just who I am and what I believe, and if that isn’t something we share, cool. I’m not going to change anything. I can still have a relationship with her where I can hug her when I see her. I love her. I don’t want bad things to happen to her. I will respect her, and her ability to do whatever.”
She added, “But I’m a loud b**** that just disagrees with a lot of things and that’s who I am. That’s totally OK.”
‘Different perspective’
Cameron Bure has shared a similar sentiment, saying different beliefs don’t have to stand in the way of a close friendship.
“My best friend has different political beliefs and is a different religion than me,” she explained on her podcast in June 2025.
“… I said, ‘This is a safe place. I don’t know about your friends. Maybe some of your other friends can’t have a conversation and still like you if you don’t agree with them.’”
She said she can listen to someone else’s perspective and share her own without having to argue about it.
“I want you to see a different perspective, and I want you to see Jesus in it, but even if you don’t agree with it in this moment, it’s just to get you thinking, and I still love you, and I still hope you love me,” Bure added.
