Jimmy Kimmel Tears Into Spencer Pratt’s Mayor Bid

With the June 2 primary less than a week away, Jimmy Kimmel used his Wednesday “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” monologue to slam Spencer Pratt’s Los Angeles mayor campaign—calling him a narcissist seeking attention and warning Angelenos against repeating a reality-TV-sty
When Wednesday night brought up Los Angeles politics on the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” stage, Jimmy Kimmel didn’t bother easing in. He went straight for Spencer Pratt’s mayoral campaign—warning that the “The Hills” alum is “just a narcissist looking for attention.”
Kimmel’s comments came with the June 2 primary less than a week away. and the late-night host framed the race as a familiar kind of L.A. chaos: a city that feels broken, with leaders who insist it isn’t. “Here in Los Angeles, we have a very L.A. race for mayor on our hands here,” Kimmel said. “This city, let’s be honest, this city is a mess. That is something that became especially obvious during the fires. But the people running the city. when you say this place is a mess. they go. ‘No. actually it isn’t. We’re doing a lot.’ And then we look around and go, ‘I’m not seeing it.’”.
He pivoted to the frustration many Angelenos feel—especially the sense that “nothing seems to change.” In Kimmel’s telling. that disappointment helped create an opening for Pratt: “So then you get a guy who is on a reality show. who’s on a lot of reality shows. His profession is to be the screaming jerk on reality shows and his house burns down. And even though he had no private insurance on his house and doesn’t believe in climate change. he is understandably upset about his house burning down. And since he’s a moderately famous person, he gets attention.”.
From there. Kimmel argued Pratt’s leap toward politics has less to do with government and more to do with the attention reality TV provides. He said Pratt’s campaign momentum began after people agreed with him “for the first time in his life. ” which Kimmel claims made the reality star believe he could actually win. Kimmel then zeroed in on polling and money: “If you believe the polls, 22% of them are going, ‘You know what?. You should be mayor,’” he said. “And not only are they telling him he should be mayor. they’re even going so far as to give him money for his campaign. some of which he immediately spent on moving into a $1. 500 a night room at the Hotel Bel-Air.”.
Kimmel also pointed to a discrepancy he said Pratt has been promoting. He claimed Pratt is living at the Hotel Bel-Air while running a video claiming he lives in a trailer on the burned out lot where his house was, “which he is not.”

Kimmel dismissed the idea that Pratt wants the job itself. “You think this guy wants to sit through city council meetings all day talking about zoning? No, he wants to be a star again. And guess what? It’s working,” he said.
The comparison that followed was unmistakable: Kimmel suggested Pratt’s political rise echoes Donald Trump’s. He joked that the key difference was that Trump “had a job before he was on a reality show.” Kimmel continued: “He wasn’t good at the job. He got all the money for it from his dad. And the only thing he was good at was promoting himself.”.
And in Kimmel’s framing, it didn’t end there. “And it turned out that was enough. And as a result. we are now going to have to spend the next three decades digging out of this giant hole he put us in. But this hole now has given birth to Spencer Pratt, who is running for mayor, another narcissist looking for attention.”.
Kimmel then turned directly to Angelenos, asking whether they’re willing to repeat that mistake. “Mayor should not be your first job. The mayor of L.A. is in charge of a $14 billion annual budget. Spencer Pratt is not the person who should be in charge of [it],” he said.
He also singled out a specific part of Pratt’s history. criticizing what he described as a decision to blow his fortune after believing “the world was about to end in a Mayan apocalypse.” “That’s the guy 22% of you want to be mayor of Los Angeles when the Olympics come to town. ” Kimmel said. “You got to be kidding me with this.”.
While Kimmel said he understood why some people might not want to vote for incumbent Mayor Karen Bass. he still urged voters to look elsewhere. “You better find somebody else to vote for. and preferably somebody who isn’t wasting our time and money to get himself back on television. ” he said. He added a warning to the rest of the candidates: “And for the rest of the candidates running for mayor. I hope you are paying attention to why you are currently trailing this person.”.
Pratt’s representatives did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment. But Pratt defended himself on X shortly after “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” aired. writing: “When people criticize me for not having experience. I’m a lifelong Angeleno who’s seen my home city waste away under poor leadership. THAT is my experience. Just like you. Vote for LA. Vote today.”.
“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC.

Kimmel is right, Pratt is just chasing clout.
Wait so he’s mad Pratt isn’t insured? Like people can’t just have bad policies. Also politicians all lie anyway, this feels like a smear.
I didn’t know Spencer Pratt was running?? I thought that was just like a joke show thing. But if his house burned down then I mean yeah he’d be upset. Unless Kimmel knows his whole life story which… lol
The article says Kimmel warned people not to “repeat a reality-tv-sty”?? I’m guessing that means don’t repeat a reality show style of leadership? Isn’t that just what LA does though, everyone’s always on camera. Also “no private insurance” like ok but that’s not even the mayor job, it’s like blaming a dude for not having WiFi coverage. June 2 can’t come fast enough.
