Jim Jordan Melts Down On CNN When Confronted Over Support for Candidate Accused Of Abuse

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) got into a heated exchange with CNN’s Kasie Hunt on Thursday when confronted about his continued support for Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio) even after being accused of abusing his wife and daughter.

Hunt pressed Jordan on whether Miller should drop his reelection bid and resign from Congress amid the allegations.

Jordan called the allegations “a family matter” and said he hopes Miller wins reelection, while also bragging that he had recently campaigned for him.

“He’s done a good job as a member of Congress and we should all pray for his family,” Jordan said. “These are difficult times that they’re going through, we understand that, these kind of situations always are, but Max is a good member and colleague and hopefully he’s gonna win reelection.”

Hunt went on to detail the allegations against Miller, which include that he threw hot water from a skillet at his wife, held a gun to her head and may have fractured their 2-year-old daughter’s collarbone, according to a report from The New York Times.

Hunt then queued up video of Jordan reacting in June discussing former Democratic Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, as the congressman claimed he hadn’t heard all the allegations made against Miller.

“That’s always been the case with Democrats; it’s all about maintaining power, they will take any crazy position as long as it furthers their ability to win elections and get power, and frankly to go against anyone who goes against President Trump,” Jordan said on Newsmax at the time.

Hunt asked why his previous statements about Platner didn’t apply to the allegations against Miller.

“Well, I don’t know the context of the question I was asked about Mr. Platner,” Jordan said, raising his voice. “But my guess is it was about all the ridiculous positions he’s taken.”

“The banner there says ’Platner’s ex-girlfriend accuses him,’” Hunt said. (The Newsmax banner actually read “Democrat Hypocrisy Exposed In Latest Platner Scandal.”)

Jordan contended the question he was answering was about Platner the candidate.

“And frankly it wasn’t me who kicked him (Platner) off the ballot, it was the Democrats,” Jordan concluded.

A spokeswoman for Miller’s campaign told The New York Times the allegations against him are “outrageous,” and that the congressman would “continue to vigorously defend his reputation against false and reckless allegations designed to inflame public opinion rather than reflect reality.”
