Jerry World will block the sun for the World Cup
FIFA will use blackout curtains at Jerry World for at least one early-evening World Cup match, responding to a stadium-sun dispute that once ignited a heated exchange from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones after CeeDee Lamb suggested curtains be used.
The sun may be in the forecast, but FIFA has decided it won’t be in the way.
At Jerry World—home of the Dallas Cowboys—blackout curtains will be used for an early-evening FIFA World Cup match, with the change set to cover at least one of the stadium’s nine World Cup games there. A FIFA spokesperson said the curtains will be deployed to keep the glare out of players’ eyes.
The idea is personal to Jerry Jones. After receiver CeeDee Lamb said the stadium should use curtains to keep the sun out of football players’ eyes, Jones went off.
“By the way, we know where the sun is going to be when we flip the coin, so we do know where the damn sun is going to be in our own stadium,” Jones said. “Let’s just tear the damn stadium down and build another one. Are you kidding me?”
Jones’ frustration wasn’t limited to the moment. The report frames his reaction as unwillingness to refuse accommodations for soccer’s governing body once the request came through. The stadium now preparing to block the sun for FIFA follows Lamb’s earlier comments—comments that. in Jones’ view. weren’t something the Cowboys should need.
For Lamb and the rest of the Cowboys players. the irony is hard to miss: the words Jones used—“Are you kidding me?”—now echo back at the very problem he dismissed. And it comes with a straightforward. uncomfortable contrast: FIFA gets curtains for World Cup football at Jerry World. while Jones once rejected the same approach when it was suggested for the NFL.

So they’re gonna literally block the sun? lol
Jerry Jones always acts like everything is his stadium and his rules, then FIFA comes in and suddenly curtains are fine. I’m not mad, just seems backwards.
Wait I thought the whole point was the World Cup is at night? If the sun is still a problem then they should just start the match later, not drag curtains into it. Also CeeDee Lamb sounds like he caused drama for no reason.
This is kinda wild because I heard once they wanted the curtains for the Cowboys but Jerry was like nope, and now it’s for soccer so it’s “acceptable.” Next they’ll be putting shade over the scoreboard too, like the sun personally offended him. And if it’s nine World Cup games then is it only for one… or are they gonna do it every time the sun shows up over Texas? Sounds like Jerry Jones got roasted by the physics.
