Jaylen Brown says trade talk turns him ‘monster’

Jaylen Brown used Celtics trade rumors and negativity as fuel, telling viewers on Twitch that the doubts only push him harder—while the Celtics weigh moves tied to the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes.

Jaylen Brown didn’t dodge the noise. He trained with Olympic sprinter Noah Lyles on Sunday, then turned the camera on during his Twitch session and spoke directly to the people fueling trade chatter around him and the Boston Celtics.

“Somewhat grateful, because I get to see some negativity that I didn’t want,” Brown said while working out. “But that just gives more fuel to the fire.”

He added that he’s seen comments he didn’t even want to scroll through, and that the reaction only strengthens his resolve. “I see some comments, or takes, that I didn’t even care to see, but it just gives me more fuel to the fire.”

Then he came to the blunt part—about the people who’ve questioned his future. “To all the people who have doubted me, that want me to do this or want me gone, you’re turning me into a monster.”

A little after he said it, the clip was reposted with Brown’s exact quote: “To all the people that’s doubted me, that want me to do this, or want me (traded), you’re turning me into a monster.” The timing landed as Giannis Antetokounmpo’s trade discussions appear to be entering their final stretch.

Brown still has a contract with Boston through the 2028-29 season. But the 2024 NBA Finals MVP is also widely viewed as the kind of player who could move quickly in negotiations—particularly as teams jockey for Antetokounmpo out of Milwaukee.

On Monday morning. ESPN insider Brian Windhorst said on his show that the Celtics and the Miami Heat are the teams aggressively going after Antetokounmpo. describing them as “the finalists.” Windhorst added a tight timeline: if Antetokounmpo is traded within the next 24 hours. he believes it would be to either Boston or Miami.

Windhorst also said Boston has been cautious about putting Jaylen Brown in an official firm offer, but that Brown is “on the table.” He went further: he believes Brown could be traded for Antetokounmpo “in the short term.”

What makes Brown’s message resonate now is that he hasn’t publicly aired frustrations with Boston or demanded a trade—especially after he described the 2025-26 season as his “favorite” campaign to date across 10 years in the NBA.

Still, the trade talk hasn’t been the only source of friction. Last month, Brown used Twitch to push back against comments from NBA Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady that appeared to signal Brown was growing frustrated with his situation in Boston.

“First things first, lotta stuff swirling around the Celtics and our organization,” Brown said. He said he hated that even Boston’s president of basketball operations had to respond. “Me and Brad [Stevens] have a great relationship. I love Boston.”

Brown continued: “If it was up to me, I’d play in Boston for the next 10 years. I’ll say it again: I hate that Brad even had to respond to this.”

That earlier sentiment—about wanting to stay—sits uncomfortably alongside the current intensity of the Antetokounmpo rumors involving Boston and Milwaukee.

By Monday evening. Yahoo Sports NBA reporter Kelly Iko wrote that league sources said Brown might be receptive to playing elsewhere if he’s given the keys to a franchise as the No. 1 option. Iko also reported that there is a growing sense that Brown is comfortable with the idea of leaving Boston and being traded to Milwaukee. and that he may be looking for a resolution within the next 48 hours. The basis. Iko said. is that the Celtics’ offer is contingent on Jaylen Brown’s inclusion—despite a denial that amused rival executives.

So Brown is left in a familiar, high-stakes place: contractually tied to the Celtics, publicly committed to Boston in the past, and now surrounded by talk that makes even the most careful relationship narratives hard to maintain.

For now, his answer to the doubt is unmistakable. In the middle of trade chatter and the Antetokounmpo countdown, Brown is choosing to frame the skepticism as motivation—turning the rumors themselves into something he can use.
