Jason Rabbitte’s drive: family, college, and All-Ireland push

Jason Rabbitte plays for the Galway senior hurling team and just claimed the Man Of The Match title for the All-Ireland semi-final, where Galway knocked out Cork. The energetic match saw Galway finish 2-26 and Cork with 1-17. Here’s everything you need to know about the player ahead of the All-Ireland final which takes place on July 19th. Born into a sporty family in 2006 in Athenry, Jason’s the son of Joe Rabbitte, a former Galway hurler and two-time All-Star. Jason’s sister Sabina is also
a camogie player and has competed in the All-Ireland camogie final. Jason has another sister, Olwen, who is also involved in camogie. Speaking about his children to the Irish Examiner , Jason’s father said: “Most days, you know, I thank God that the three of them are healthy and able to play the sport they love. I’m very appreciative of that fact. “The four of us, when they were younger, we’d be out hurling in the back garden and sure it would turn into a
competition before we’d come in for the evening. “You see them now and Jason is heading off to Galway training with the Mannions, the same as the two girls are loading up in another full car. They all come home with a smile on their face every evening and that’s why we do be so happy as parents because we can see they are enjoying this.” Jason is currently studying Engineering at Atlantic Technological University. When asked about his future plans with college and life,
he said: “I plan to continue developing my career in the engineering sector while also pursuing my sporting goals alongside my studies and beyond.” After just competing in the All-Ireland semi-final, which will bring him to the All-Ireland finals, Jason has an extensive list of leagues behind him already. These include: All Ireland Minor Hurling Championship, All Ireland U20 Hurling Championship, Allianz National Hurling League Division 1A, Leinster Minor Hurling Championship, Leinster Minor Hurling Championship Tier 1, Leinster U20 Hurling Championship, Leinster Senior Hurling Championship
This year is his fourth season, with a promising future ahead of him. Want to see more of the stories you love from RSVP ? To add RSVP as a preferred source of news on Google, simply click here
