Jarvis’ OT power-play strike flips Hurricanes’ Stanley Cup climb

Jarvis’ overtime – Seth Jarvis scored a one-timer on the power play at 3:56 of overtime to give the Carolina Hurricanes a 4-3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night, erasing a 2-0 third-period deficit and tying the Stanley Cup Final series after Carolina had fallen

RALEIGH, N.C. — At 3:56 of overtime, the moment arrived the way the Hurricanes had been insisting it would: their top-line guys finally delivered, and the power play finally struck when it mattered.

Seth Jarvis blasted a one-timer past Carter Hart to lift the Carolina Hurricanes past the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 on Thursday night. keeping Carolina alive in the Stanley Cup Final series. It was a wild night shaped by two different realities—Carolina’s third-period climb. and the scramble that followed a late goal that forced extra time.

The comeback started with a steep hill to climb. Carolina trailed 2-0 entering the third period, looking overmatched. Then they rallied with three unanswered goals to put themselves on top, only to see the Golden Knights get a tying goal late and send the game to overtime.

By the time Jarvis finished the job in extra time, the Hurricanes’ turnaround carried more weight than one win. Carolina had been staring at an 0-2 series deficit after losing twice at home. Thursday night flipped the script: the Hurricanes headed West with the series tied.

Their power play had to earn the right to be trusted. Heading into Thursday, it was just 7 of 58 over the playoffs, a 12.1% conversion rate, after ranking fourth in the regular season at 24.9%. Yet the same unit that sputtered at key moments struck twice to swing the game.

First, captain Jordan Staal redirected Shayne Gostisbehere’s shot to beat Hart from the top of the crease for a 3-2 lead with the man advantage. Then came Jarvis’ overtime finish—his fourth goal of the playoffs—after he led the team with 32 regular-season goals.

When Jarvis buried the shot from the left circle, he skated toward the blue line and dropped to one knee, sliding across the ice. The Hurricanes’ bench spilled onto the ice in a stunned, immediate celebration.

Game 3 of the best-of-seven series is Saturday in Las Vegas.

  1. Wait I’m confused, they were down 2-0 and then somehow won 4-3? That’s like baseball scores, not hockey. Also Carter Hart??? is he even good or was it just the power play stuff.

  2. The article says the power play was trash like 7 of 58 and 12% but then “struck twice” like it was always gonna happen lol. If it was so low before, shouldn’t they’ve been doomed the whole series? I feel like Vegas got outcoached and nobody wants to say that.

  3. Carolina flipping the series after being 0-2 is wild, but isn’t it just because Vegas had a late goal? like momentum or whatever. Also I keep mixing up Stanley Cup Final and regular season, so are they done playing at home now or what. Saturday in Vegas better be crazy.
