James Talarico May Have Violated the Very State Voting Laws He’s Accused His GOP Opponent of Breaking: Reports

Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico accused his Republican opponent of voter fraud — all while being guilty of the same violations himself, according to two new reports on Wednesday.
The reports — from The Texas Tribune and ProPublica — found Talarico “may have violated state voting laws” by voting in five elections using his parents’ address instead of the one where he actually resides.
At minimum, it would be hypocritical, given what he said about Texas Attorney General and Senate candidate Ken Paxton last month.
Talarico accused his GOP rival of going on a “voter fraud witch hunt” while “committing voter fraud the whole time, voting illegally in six elections in a row from the wrong address.”
But Talarico reportedly broke state law in a similar fashion, multiple times.
The Tribune explained :
Piecing together Talarico’s voting history is more difficult than it is for Paxton. Talarico, unlike the attorney general, redacts his address on the Travis County voter rolls under a state law that allows some public officials to shield personal information for safety reasons. But unredacted records Talarico’s campaign provided the newsrooms show that he listed his parents’ address on his voter registration in November 2021.
He purchased a home in June 2022 but did not change his voter registration address until September 2024, the news organizations’ review of Travis County records shows. The new address is redacted, but Talarico’s campaign previously told the newsrooms that he currently lives and is registered to vote at the north Austin home he owns.
Texas law requires residents to register to vote where they live, the outlet added.
Talarico last week bragged to MS NOW’s Lawrence O’Donnell, “When I get tough questions, I answer them. When Ken Paxton gets tough questions, he runs away.”
But not all tough questions, apparently. His campaign declined to answer questions from The Tribune and ProPublica about his residency and voting history, including questions about when he started living at the home he bought.
Talarico campaign spokesperson JT Ennis told The Tribune the focus on the liberal state lawmaker’s voting history is “a lame attempt by Ken Paxton to deflect from his own hypocrisy and career of corruption.”
