It’s hard to believe it took Orioles’ Pete Alonso this long to pull off this HR feat

The Baltimore Orioles have had their share of struggles this season. Baltimore though had something to celebrate on Sunday, as veteran slugger Pete Alonso went deep. He went deep twice in fact, hitting two home runs in one game for the first time as an Oriole.

The home runs came in a game against the Texas Rangers. Alonso has made it his mission to help lead Baltimore back to glory, following a tough trade deadline this year. Baltimore traded away star catcher Adley Rutschman to the Boston Red Sox, as well as other players.

The Rutschman trade felt like a punch to the gut to Orioles fans. Alonso is trying not to get down following those losses.

“There is a world where we do turn it around and really make a step forward,” Alonso said, per MLB.com. “We’ve got some pieces that are going to help us win now and long term.”

Alonso came over to Baltimore after playing for many years with the New York Mets. He is one of the most experienced sluggers in baseball. This season, he is hitting at a .247 batting average.

The addition of Alonso hasn’t really helped Baltimore find a lot of wins. The club has been under .500 for nearly the entire 2026 Major League Baseball season. Orioles fans hope the team can find a way to post a winning season, even though playoff hopes appear to be lost.

Baltimore enters Sunday with a 56-61 record. The team is fourth in the American League East, ahead of only the Toronto Blue Jays. The Orioles and Rangers continue to play at time of writing.

Heading into Sunday’s game, Baltimore had dropped six of their last 10 contests.
