Insider lays out 1 major ‘difference’ in Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck trade request

The trade saga with Winnipeg Jets star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck in the middle just got a little more interesting.

Connor Hellebuyck wants out of the Winnipeg Jets, with the star netminder confirming trade rumors he requested “several months ago,” according to a statement released by his camp.

It remains to be seen how this saga involving Hellebuyck will play out. Making the situation even more interesting is the fact that his current contract includes a full no-movement clause through the 2026-27 NHL season. That will become a modified version of the clause starting in the 2027-28 campaign.

But according to Chris Johnston of The Athletic, Hellebuyck is open to waiving his NMC to a degree.

“One key difference with the Connor Hellebuyck trade request compared to others around the NHL is that he’s willing to waive his NMC for a variety of teams. The offers haven’t been to Winnipeg’s liking just yet, obviously, but they’re not totally handcuffed,” Johnston shared via a social media post on X (formerly Twitter).
