Inside Man returns to Netflix June 1—again

Spike Lee’s Inside Man returns to Netflix on June 1, bringing Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, and Jodie Foster’s twisty Wall Street heist back to streaming screens for viewers old and new.

On June 1, Inside Man slips back into Netflix’s rotation—right back into the same conversation it helped ignite two decades ago: the idea that a heist thriller can be slick, smart, and still feel deeper than it first appears.

Spike Lee’s heist film, originally released March 24, 2006, is a Wall Street bank robbery built on misdirection. A group of bank robbers stages a daring robbery at a Wall Street Bank. but the movie steadily makes it clear that not everything is what it seems. Detective Keith Frazier, played by Denzel Washington, is the NYPD negotiator trying to understand what the robbers actually want. He’s pulled into a tense game of intentions and timing, alongside other forces shaping what happens inside the bank.

The cast is stacked with familiar faces and major-star gravitas. Clive Owen plays Dalton Russell, the mastermind behind the robbery. Jodie Foster takes on Madeleine White. the fixer who enters the picture to protect a seriously dark secret tied to the bank’s owner. Christopher Plummer appears as Arthur Case, the bank chairman. Willem Dafoe is Captain John Darius, and Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Detective Bill Mitchell, Frazier’s partner. Kim Director rounds out the main ensemble as Stevie, one of Dalton’s crew members.

The film’s premise sounds straightforward until it doesn’t. Inside Man leans hard into twists and turns. and even the hostages are part of the plan—an escalation that keeps tightening the room around everyone watching and. in turn. every character trapped inside the bank. It runs 129 minutes, but it rarely feels like the story is waiting for permission to move.

That blend of momentum and layered plotting is part of why the film became such a standout mainstream hit. Inside Man grossed $184.4 million worldwide against a $45 million budget, and it became Spike Lee’s highest-grossing film. Critics also embraced it: it currently holds 86% on Rotten Tomatoes and 76 on Metacritic. with critics praising it as a slick. smart heist thriller.

Now, with Inside Man coming to Netflix on June 1, viewers get another chance to watch the same choreography of deception—whether you’ve lived through its twists before or finally want to see what all the fuss was about when the film first premiered.
