Inside Emma Roberts’ Family Feud That Destroyed Relationship With Dad Eric – And How Aunt Julia Was No ‘Help’ At Start Of Career: REPORT

Emma Roberts‘ relationship with her family is a complicated one.

As we previously reported, the actress recently got married to her now-hubby Cody John in a lavish ceremony. Her closest loved ones were by her side as she said her vows, but notably, her father Eric Roberts wasn’t there. They’ve had a strained relationship for Emma’s whole life. He lost custody of his daughter to her mom Kelly Cunningham due to his struggles with addiction, and according to what insiders are telling DailyMail.com, the complications run way deeper than that.

According to one source, who spoke to the outlet on Tuesday, it was no surprise to Emma’s loved ones that her father wasn’t included:

“Emma did not invite her father to her wedding because she doesn’t want to be around him. No one told her to invite him to the wedding, they know better than to bring that up. She has been mad at him for many years, mostly because she feels he has not been a supportive father. He wasn’t around when she was young.”

This is something Eric himself admitted to in his 2024 memoir. He said he was never around, and that he essentially “abandoned” Emma despite his love for her. A source told the outlet, though, that a year after Emma was born, the actor spent all his time with his wife, Eliza Roberts.

Unsurprisingly in a lot of these stories, sadly, things seemed to change after Emma’s career took off, per the source:

“Emma became in demand, everyone wanted to hire her. And she wanted to act! She was into it. She got a manager and agent, everything. Suddenly Emma started having this big teen career when her dad started working less. There was a big shift.”

With Eric’s career taking a nose-dive, according to this insider, he “became competitive”:

“When she got famous, he became competitive with her, his ego was in overdrive, and he was like, ‘what about me?’ So the pain goes way back.”

That’s so sad to hear for Emma!

It wasn’t until Emma grew up that Eric reportedly started to come around:

“He knows he made mistakes and he has apologized.”

But the source said that Emma was done with him by then — she’s been relying on her mom:

“It was over a decade ago. She has bad feelings and she won’t forgive him. He didn’t raise her, her mother Kelly did, so it’s complicated. Emma is super close to her mother Kelly, they talk every day, because Kelly has been by Emma’s side every step of the way, she has been an amazing mother and supports her with her career, her life, she guides her in every way.”

The Scream Queens star has pretty much kicked Eric out of her life for good, according to the insider. And it reportedly is a big sore spot for him:

“Emma has not gone to her dad’s birthdays at the Back on the Beach Cafe in Santa Monica or Father’s Day brunches for many years and it breaks his heart but what can he do? He can’t do anything about it. They don’t hang out. It’s very sad and it bothers him a great deal.”

This source insists he’s changed, though it’s likely too little, too late:

“Eric may have been a jerk when he was younger because I think fame overwhelmed him. He is a sweet man now, though. Eric has given up on reaching out to Emma. She knows that if she wants a relationship, he is there for her. He doesn’t see Emma or her son Rhodes, they don’t talk.”

Oof… But what about Emma’s relationship with her aunt Julia Roberts? Well, that’s complicated, too — but not nearly as toxic. Reportedly, it was pretty rocky at the start:

“When Emma was starting out in Hollywood, she really wanted to do well, she really wanted a great career, but Julia did not help her out. It was nothing personal, it was just that Julia has a ‘no help’ policy. She never helps anyone with their careers because she feels it is better if people make it on their own.”

With everything going on with her father, it’s not surprising Emma would feel this way. Luckily, over the years, things have changed:

“They became a lot closer at some point, with Julia always including Emma in family stuff. Julia has been a great aunt. Emma and Julia have become closer over the years, so it’s not a shock Julia was at the wedding. Emma really likes Danny [Moder] and Julia’s kids, so they are close.”

For Julia and her brother Eric, it’s a different story. A second source claimed they are “not super close, though they do talk.” Their drama reportedly stems from Eric allegedly having some loose lips! The insider said:

“When Eric told the world that Julia has her hands full because she has teenagers [back in 2022], Julia got pissed and told him to stop talking to the press. Eric has a big mouth, because he is just that way, he is unfiltered, so no one in the family tells him much.”

This family drama runs DEEP! Oh man…
