Historic Dalkey mansion sells for €15.5m, sets market mark

An historic castellated mansion with its own private harbour located in Ireland’s most sought-after neighborhood has sold for around €15.5 million, making it the most valuable home sale in the Irish market so far this year. Situated on a coastal plot spanning 0.75 acres in Dalkey in South Dublin, Inniscorrig was commissioned in 1847 by the celebrated Dublin Physician Sir Dominic Corrigan. This castellated granite mansion commands sweeping views across Dalkey Sound towards Dalkey Island and the horizon beyond. After being placed on the market
earlier this year, the gorgeous mansion has been acquired by an Irish family living in the United States, according to The Irish Times. The house was once the childhood home of Rivals actress Victoria Smurfit. The actress spent part of her childhood in Dalkey alongside her businessman father, Dermot Smurfit, mother Caroline, and her siblings. However, it was accountant Shane Little and his wife Nicola O’Flaherty who sold the home, which they paid €7.8 million for in 2018. The couple sold the house through London-based
estate agency, Inhous. Nicola is the daughter of the late Irish Volkswagen heir Nigel O’Flaherty, who died in 2016, leaving almost €60 million in his will. Originally constructed as a summer retreat, Inniscorrig has welcomed numerous distinguished guests throughout its history, including King Edward VII and King George V of England, whose visits are commemorated by a crown and star set into the pebbles of the patio terraces. Corrigan himself is honoured with a granite bust positioned directly above the hall door. The mansion has
undergone comprehensive renovation in recent years, fitted and finished to the highest standards throughout. It boasts six double bedrooms, two reception rooms, a reading room, a Porter and Jones kitchen, numerous sitting rooms and bathrooms, and most impressively, a private swimming pool carved directly from the granite shoreline. There’s also an attractive granite-built lodge, comprising one double bedroom, a living room and a shower room with a private patio to the rear – perfect as either a guest suite or staff accommodation. Situated within easy
walking distance of the much-loved heritage town of Dalkey, the property enjoys close proximity to an exceptional array of speciality shops, eateries, bijou restaurants and shopping facilities, reports RSVP Live. Coliemore Harbour, the most important trading port on the east coast of Ireland between 1200 and 1600, is barely a minute’s stroll from the front door.
