Injured detective airlifted after gunfire erupts in Antelope Valley; suspect is killed

A San Bernardino County sheriff’s detective was shot during an investigation in Little Rock on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The detective was hit by gunfire around 3:10 p.m. in the 13000 block of East Avenue R at 130 Street. The San Bernardino County and L.A. County sheriffs’ departments said the detective was serving a search warrant when gunfire broke out and he and a suspect were hit.

The detective was airlifted to a Lancaster hospital and reported in stable condition. The suspect was killed, officials said.

Aerial views of the scene showed two SUVs and a deputy’s ballistics vest abandoned on the ground at the scene. Los Angeles County officials confirmed that the agency airlifted injured people from the scene. The SUVs had bullet holes visible in their windows.

Dozens of L.A. County sheriff’s deputies converged on the scene and were visible amid a desert landscape and some ramshackle buildings.

The Los Angeles County sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is conducting an investigation into the shooting.
