Infantino’s private jet under World Cup 2026 scrutiny

Infantino’s private – FIFA has said its president, Gianni Infantino, travels regularly for business and tournament-related matters, including visits to member associations. But questions remain unanswered about flights to World Cup games, the use of Qatar Executive, and whether FIF

Gianni Infantino’s World Cup 2026 route—at least the part that involves air travel—has become a point of tension far beyond the stadium.

A FIFA representative told BBC Sport that Infantino “routinely travels. together with relevant officials. on business and tournament-related matters and strives to visit member associations of Fifa whenever he can.” The representative added that travel is sometimes arranged on commercial airlines. including low-cost carriers. and sometimes on private charter “depending on which is more efficient and cost-effective under the circumstances.”.

The problem is that FIFA has not answered the questions that sit at the center of the debate: whether any of the flights to World Cup games were on commercial airlines, how many people travel on the Qatar Executive jet, or whether FIFA offsets emissions.

For Freddie Daley, the issue is not just logistics—it’s messaging at the top. Daley. who works for the sport climate action network Cool Down. said Infantino’s apparent use of a private jet at the World Cup was “symptomatic of Fifa’s failings on the environment and sustainability.” In his view. it clashes with what supporters and climate campaigners want from leadership. “The fact that Infantino’s choosing to use a private jet is just completely at odds with the level of leadership that we need to see at the top of Fifa on environmental issues. ” Daley said.

Daley’s criticism lands in a wider argument about the environmental footprint of different modes of travel. Denise Auclair. a sustainable travel expert at the European Federation for Transport and Environment. pointed to the scale of the impact. She said private jets have a “completely disproportionate impact”. adding that they are “five to 14 times more polluting than commercial planes and 50 times more than trains.”.

The sequence of FIFA’s explanation and its silence on the specific travel questions leaves a clear gap in the public record. FIFA lays out a general travel framework—commercial routes at times. private charter at other times—but when it comes to the World Cup flights themselves. the details that would show how those choices translate into emissions remain unanswered.

As the debate grows, the central contradiction is simple: FIFA describes travel as practical and cost-sensitive, yet climate advocates argue that the most visible travel choice—private jets—sits at odds with the sustainability standards the organization is expected to champion.

  1. I mean Qatar Executive is literally the airline name, right? Like it’s already kinda obvious he flew private, they just won’t admit it lol. Climate stuff aside, this dude never seems to get in trouble for anything.

  2. Wait, I thought private jets are like the safest/fastest way and commercial is slower so that’s why they do it? But then they’re saying it’s 5 to 14 times worse than commercial… I’m not good at math, so is that like “a little” or “a lot”? Either way, FIFA should just come clean on the exact flights.

  3. This is why people don’t trust FIFA. First it’s “cost-effective” then it’s Qatar Executive and suddenly nobody answers anything about emissions. But honestly I bet it’s like… one flight, not that big, unless they’re counting like the jet for snacks or whatever. Still, if they wanted to show leadership they’d take commercial like everyone else. Also who cares about member associations visiting if the president is always off in the sky?
