LONGVIEW, Wash. — The morning air around Longview’s Industrial Way suddenly changed course at 7:18 a.m. Tuesday, when an implosion rocked a facility where chemical treatment products are handled.
The Longview Fire Department said the incident involved a vat of chemical treatment product at the Nippon facility, located at 3401 Industrial Way. Multiple people were injured, and officials said several suffered chemical burns and other injuries.
Those injured were taken to local hospitals. At this time, officials said the full extent of the injuries is not fully known.
Firefighters and a Hazardous Materials Team are working with Nippon employees to mitigate the product and the container involved. Officials emphasized that there is no immediate threat to the public.
With emergency crews still on scene, people were urged to avoid the area and stay away from Industrial Way.

Implosion?? Like the container just collapsed in on itself. That’s terrifying.
So they’re saying no threat to the public but people still got chemical burns… ok sure. I live kind of near Industrial Way and the whole thing is sketchy.
I heard it was some kind of bleach/cleaner thing. Why are they making “paper products” with chemicals anyway? Somebody should’ve checked the safety valves before it goes boom.
This is crazy, and I don’t even understand what an “implosion” is in this context. Like did the chemical fumes shoot out or was it more like a vacuum thing? They said avoid the area which is smart, but “no immediate threat” doesn’t help my brain calm down. Hope everyone makes it out ok.
