Two arrested over mock drive-by outside Sydney synagogue

Two men have been charged after allegedly pointing an imitation firearm at a synagogue in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The incident occurred around midday Saturday when the men, ages 22 and 25, allegedly aimed the fake weapon at the building while driving along Kiaora Road in Double Bay. Police intercepted their Toyota SUV shortly afterwards, recovered the imitation pistol, and made the arrests. 🔴 Two men arrested in Sydney, after they allegedly pointed guns (which turned out to be imitations weapons) at group of Jewish worshippers

The 25-year-old faces a charge of unauthorised possession of a pistol. Alex Ryvchin, co-chief executive of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, called the Shabbat incident disturbing and

commended police for their swift response. Security concerns remain high for the country’s Jewish community following last December’s deadly terror shooting at a Bondi Beach Chanukah gathering, prompting Canberra to respond to the surge in antisemitism with a Royal Commission and legislative action.

  1. This is why you cant just ignore antisemitism. Even if it’s an imitation gun, pointing it at a synagogue is messed up. Glad they caught them fast.

  2. Wait, arrested for a mock drive-by like a prank? But they were in a Toyota SUV so clearly it’s a carjacking thing? Idk how that stalking charge works. I just feel like everyone’s overreacting until you know what the ‘imitation’ actually looked like.

  3. Double Bay sounds like nothing ever happens there, so this shocked me. I keep thinking about last December (Bondi Beach) and it’s like the fear never goes away. Also why is Australia always doing new commissions and laws like it’s gonna fix people, ya know? Anyway good police work I guess, still disturbing.
