HUNTR/X Anniversary Brings Netflix’s Record Film Back

HUNTR/X anniversary – One year after HUNTR/X became Netflix’s biggest global hit, the streamer is gearing up an anniversary slate that includes new ways to watch—and new LEGO merchandise built around Derpy Tiger and Sussie.
By the time you notice the calendar has flipped to “one year later,” it can already feel like the internet has moved on. But with HUNTR/X, viewers have kept showing up—week after week, screen after screen—proof that the movie didn’t just land. It stuck.
Netflix is marking the first anniversary of the game-changing debut from HUNTR/X’s parent team. Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans’ Sony Pictures Animation feature. which has since become a cultural event in its own right. Since its breakout. fans have kept watching Rumi. Mira. and Zoey. with a streak of 50-straight weeks in the English top-ten. if Netflix’s own charting is any indication.
And the scale of that moment still holds. HUNTR/X soared to #1 on Netflix’s all-time global viewership charts with 325.1 million views. following the earlier wave of awards attention for the film’s soundtrack—where “Golden” became the center of the story’s pop-culture footprint. The music was everywhere. and the broader movie package landed major honors. including Oscars for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.
Netflix isn’t only looking back, though. The streamer is building a proper anniversary celebration designed for repeat viewing: anniversary screenings, a global TikTok watch party, and anniversary edition vinyls—plus other surprises rolling out as the year mark arrives.
For many fans, the anniversary is also about stepping into the film’s world with hands-on memorabilia. Among the new items heading to shelves is a fresh LEGO set created through a collaboration aimed at bringing to life the movie’s supernatural messenger tiger.
Netflix and LEGO revealed a set that lets fans construct Rumi and Jinu’s pal. Derpy Tiger. along with his little six-eyed magpie companion. Sussie. The model is made with 825 pieces and is designed to be built and displayed with Derpy Tiger loyally sitting in place and posed in a way that keeps Sussie’s spot in view. The figure also comes with perch options so Sussie can sit on Derpy’s head. and Derpy’s mouth can be shut or opened with a special friendly message to share.
There’s even a touch of clumsy charm baked into the build: the set includes a flower pot that Derpy Tiger can try—and fail—to tip back up. It’s a colorful commemoration of one of the movie’s most beloved characters and the quirks fans latched onto.
All of this arrives as momentum around K-pop themed storytelling continues to build. Buzz for a KPop Demon Hunters sequel remains high one year after the original film. and Netflix has confirmed the follow-up is happening. Back in March. Netflix officially confirmed that the sequel was in motion with both Kang and Appelhans returning as writers and directors. Arden Cho. May Hong. and Ji-young Yoo are likely to reprise their roles as the speaking voices of HUNTR/X. alongside EJAE. Audrey Nuna. and Rei Ami.
Animation takes time, and the sequel’s timeline reflects that. It isn’t expected to arrive until 2029. and while there’s no firm direction publicly pinned down yet. both sides of Rumi. Mira. and Zoey have already offered competing ideas for what the next film should become—ranging from a globe-trotting new adventure that sends the group to different cities across the globe to a darker. Andor-like story that explores real Korean history.
In an interview with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff. Kang made the stakes clear: she said that anything done after this would be “exactly like how we approached the first movie. ” and that the team would stay true to what they wanted to see and what they wanted to challenge themselves with. She added that they would also look at what other people want to see. but as directors and writers. they would have to “be true to yourself. ” insisting they kept “very high standards” and would keep them through “every single inch” of whatever comes next—even if it’s “probably harder.”.
The LEGO set has its own date now, too. It will be available for pre-sale globally on the official LEGO website, and it will officially launch in stores on August 1.
One year after HUNTR/X hit, the big question for Netflix isn’t whether people still care—it’s how far the momentum can travel, and how many new ways fans can step back into the same story.

Wait so HUNTR/X is actually back on Netflix?? I thought it already ended, lol.
LEGO sets for a tiger character is kinda wild. I’m not even sure who Derpy Tiger is but if it’s trending I guess it’s deserved? Also 50 weeks top ten???
Isn’t this the one where the soundtrack song “Golden” literally made the movie popular like day 1? I feel like I heard it on TikTok first then Netflix was like “oh yeah let’s put it back in.”
Netflix always says “record views” but they never say if it’s repeat watching or unique people so yeah I’m skeptical. Still, Oscars for animated feature and song?? And now vinyl?? Like who has a record player anymore. I mean I do but most people don’t lol.
