National Park Service rangers and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene to secure the area and recover the remains.

LVMPD said a non-criminal dead body report was taken as the Clark County Coroner responded to the scene.

No details have been released regarding the possible identity of the individual or the suspected cause of death.

FOX5 spoke to the families who made the discovery and witnessed the whole ordeal.

Mario Lecano found a jawbone in the water.

“We were just getting up to the lake shore, and we were unpacking our stuff, and my daughter went straight to the water. I ran after her because she didn’t have her life jacket, and as soon as I grabbed her, I saw, like, down by her legs that there was like what appears to be like some bones and some teeth,” Lecano tells FOX5. His wife pointed out that the jawbone had fillings; the family called 911, and shortly after, Lecano said investigators and divers came to the shore.

Local realtor Dianelis Molina Cruz took video of the investigation; the video has been seen by thousands online.

“I’m a real estate agent here in Vegas, and I do a lot of education videos, and I don’t get viral. But if you put something like that, people are going to go there, and obviously it’s going to go viral,” Molina Cruz said.

That Sunday, according to LakesOnline.com, Lake Mead levels plummeted to 1,039 feet; the lake hasn’t seen such lows since 2022, when numerous sets of human remains were found at Boulder Beach, Hemenway Harbor and Callville Bay. On May 1, 2022, a body was found in a barrel on the shore; the victim died of a gunshot wound.
