How to watch UConn Football on WFSB and what you need to know before heading to The Rent

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – Game day is almost here. UConn football kicks off its season Saturday at Rentschler Field, and you can catch every minute of it right here on WFSB, Channel 3 — pregame, kickoff, and halftime all included. It’s also the start of a new era for the program under head coach Jason Candle, who takes the field for the first time.
If you’re tuning in or heading to The Rent yourself, here’s what you need to know.
How to Watch on WFSB
Get a head start on the season Friday night with Channel 3’s UConn Unleashed special, a one-on-one interview with Coach Candle plus a first look at the new faces on the roster.
Then Saturday, WFSB has you covered from start to finish — pregame show, full game coverage, and a halftime show — all beginning at 11:30 AM. Watch for the reveal of the starting quarterback and a full breakdown of the matchup against Lafayette.
What Candle and the Huskies Are Bringing to the Field
Candle said he wants a team built on physicality and discipline.
“I hope we have a very physical football team. I feel like we have the people in place to present that. I hope it’s a football team that doesn’t beat itself and comes out and plays very clean,” he said.
And he wants Saturday to belong to the players, not to him.
“A game day is not about me. This is about me staying the hell out of the way and letting these guys do what they love to do,” he said.
Linebacker Kenji Christian said fans should expect an aggressive, fast-paced style of play.
“I think we’re a very aggressive team. We’re gonna play fast. We’re gonna play physical. I think we want to dominate whoever’s in front of us. Our mentality is to worry about what’s going on on the field, not worry about the outside noise,” he said.
And on offense, Avery Dunn said there’s no shortage of ways to move the ball.
“We also have an outstanding group of receivers, and our offensive line working together. We have just such a wide variety of ways to attack teams,” he said.
