How to unlock Grapple in Saros (Shattered Descent)

Grapple in Saros unlocks in the Shattered Descent biome. Defeat Prophet and Bastion, return, reach the Soltari terminal, and interact to get the ability.

Saros is doing more than rewarding good aim and clean jumps—it also hands players a mobility tool that changes how you explore and fight. One of the biggest upgrades is the Grapple ability, and the game doesn’t spell out the unlock timing as clearly as it could.

To unlock Grapple in Saros, you’ll need to reach the Shattered Descent biome.. That’s not an early stop you can casually stumble into; it’s the third biome in the progression, which means you first have to push past the earlier gates by defeating two bosses: Prophet and Bastion.. Only after those fights do you get access to Shattered Descent.

Once you arrive in Shattered Descent, you’re not immediately handed Grapple right away.. The game takes you through a short setup sequence—returning to a passage area, chatting with a few people, and then heading back into the biome.. It feels a little procedural, but it also prevents players from missing the next step.

On your second visit to Shattered Descent, the objective line shifts in a way that matters.. The quest will guide you toward a Soltari terminal, and that’s the key interaction point.. Go to the terminal, interact with it, and the Grapple ability is added.. There’s little risk of missing it because the game leads you directly to the terminal once you’re at the right moment.

Why Grapple matters isn’t just convenience—it affects both exploration and combat.. The ability lets you interact with the triangles lit with blue light that you may have noticed in earlier biomes.. Those details weren’t random set dressing; Grapple turns them into pathways, routes, and shortcuts that open up content you can’t reach otherwise.

In practice, Grapple becomes your “reach the place” tool.. During fights and traversal, look for environmental points where you can fire Grapple to close distances or break out of awkward positioning.. That’s also where hidden areas start to pay off: you can use Grapple to access locations containing additional chests, meaning it’s not only about getting around—it’s about getting more rewards.

It also has a direct role in boss pressure.. Certain encounters in Saros are far easier when you can use Grapple to reposition or access safer angles, including fights like the one against Rhabdom.. When a battle turns into a test of staying alive while the arena shifts, mobility can be the difference between grinding attempts and clearing the fight cleanly.

Even outside bosses, Grapple can change how you clear arenas. Some enemy zones are shaped around height, timing, and line-of-sight, and Grapple gives you a way to avoid being trapped by the layout. Instead of relying only on jumps and straight movement, you can take control of your routes.

So the real takeaway is timing.. Don’t treat Grapple as an early curiosity or something you “eventually” pick up.. Plan your run to Shattered Descent, get through Prophet and Bastion, complete the second-visit terminal objective, and then start using Grapple immediately on those blue-lit triangle points and environmental anchors.. Once you have it, Saros stops feeling like a map of obstacles and starts feeling like a system you can read—and reshape to your advantage.
