How to check if you qualify for State Farm’s $5B cash-back payout

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Have you checked your mailbox, or your inbox, lately? There may be a surprise waiting for you.
State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company announced it started sending out a $5 billion cash-back dividend to millions of policyholders. State Farm said it is possible because is a “mutual” insurance company. That means it is owned by its policyholders, not stockholders.
Here’s everything you need to know about the payout, who qualifies and when you can expect to get paid.
First of all, don’t expect to get rich from this payout. The $5 billion will be distributed across more than 49 million vehicles.
Your individual payout will be calculated as a percentage of the premium you paid for your qualifying auto policy during 2025. Because insurance regulations differ across the country, those percentages will vary by state, ranging anywhere from 4% to 10% of your premium.
You won’t need to file a claim to get your money. You do need to watch for official communications, or take matters into your own hands.

You have the option of having a physical check mailed to you or recieve a digital payment.

The distribution process is expected to take several months to complete because of the number of policyholders nationwide.
This payout will not impact insurance rates, so you can rest assured cashing the check will not raise your future premium rates, according to State Farm.
