Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) pulled no punches in jabbing the far-left in an interview with Politico’s Playbook after trouncing his Democratic Socialist primary opponent Oliver Larkin in Tuesday night’s primary for Florida’s 25th district. Moskowitz went so far in his remarks as to question whether or not “anti-American” DSA House members should be given security clearances.
Moskowitz was heavily targeted ahead of the primary by anti-Israel progressives like Hasan Piker over his support of the Jewish state. Representing a swing district, Moskowitz has long been one of the Democrats’ most prominent centrists in the House and, in speaking to Politico, made clear he views the DSA as an opponent of the Democratic Party.
“Florida is known for hurricanes so the DSA is a disaster area in Florida — and there’s no federal reimbursement coming to help these people,” Moskowitz told the Playbook team soon after beating Larking by some 30 points.
“Hey, Hasan Piker, welcome to Florida,” added Moskowitz, challenging the controversial streamer to continue to campaign with progressive candidates.
“Democrats shouldn’t play hide the Piker now,” Moskowitz continued, adding, “for all those people who thought it was a great idea to campaign with him, as Jay-Z once said, ‘Bring ’em out, bring ’em out.’ They shouldn’t be hiding him now.”
Piker has grabbed headlines throughout this primary season after campaigning with candidates like Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan.
Piker has long been a lightning rod of controversy for having said the U.S. “deserved” 9/11 while also boosting terror groups like Hezbollah and the Houthi rebels in Yemen. He more recently traveled to Cuba and China and praised the Chinese Communist Party while slamming the U.S. government and saying he had “no patriotism” for America.
Moskowitz jabbed the likely incoming DSA House candidates who were backed by Piker and others like New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
“They’re anti-American at their core. People who have said anti-American things and have said things that are pro-Russian and pro-China, should they really get a security clearance?” he warned.
Playbook called up Piker and asked for his response. “I’m genuinely concerned for his mental well-being,” Piker told Politico. “I think he should stop posting on the internet and focus on defeating the Republican in his newly redistricted congressional seat.”
While Moskowitz didn’t name names in jabbing the incoming DSA House candidates, he appeared to be referring to candidates like Darializa Avila Chevalier, who is poised to win her New York City-based general election after beating a longtime incumbent in the primary.
Chevalier won her primary amid a cloud of controversy over her past statements, which included having called Joe Biden a “rapist” and “war criminal” during the 2020 election and referring to the U.S. as a “f*cking disgrace.”
In other posts, she boasted about using the American flag as a napkin to wipe her dirty hands and attacked white women in interracial relationships as “ugly colonizer women.”
